But the principal at Coppell’s Lakeside Elementary says the school activity funds spent to care for Buddy the poodle, the school’s unofficial mascot, are dollars well spent.

According to documents one parent obtained from the Coppell school district, more than $2,300 was spent on the dog from Aug. 8, 2005, to June 12. The expenses included $65 grooming appointments, $94.65 for X-rays, $136.97 for immunizations and a $1,245 surgery last year to repair a broken hip Buddy suffered while riding in principal Mark Lukert’s car.
