U2’s first American television appearance

It happened back in June 1981 on the Tomorrow Show, which many just referred to as the Tom Snider show.  It’s a performance, interview, and another performance. Bono even walks into the audience.

This was months before MTV launched and you weren’t required to have a certain look. It was so cool when your favorite band came on a talk show, television show (Midnight Special or Bandstand) or award show because otherwise you had to go to a concert to see them. In some ways I miss that because now I can get burned out on seeing acts in no time. If I take a real liking to a specific act I can watch as much as I want via MTV, YouTube, etc. Sometimes its good to go hungry. Your imagination can at times, be much better than reality.

OK, Mr. Good Old Days Guy signing off.

Oh yeah, one more thing. They were so alternative or I guess it was new wave until Joshua Tree. I couldn’t find a darn T Shirt of theirs anywhere. So I remember maybe ’82 going to Wet and Wild while in college with a big “U2” spray painted in black on a sleeveless white T Shirt.
