  • Here’s something I found bothersome and unprofessional. I recently learned that at a somewhat local elementary school, two teachers are taking an entire week off to go on a cruise. Both teachers have well over a decade of teaching experience, so it’s not youthful ignorance. One is taking off the week of Thanksgiving and in essence, will have two straight weeks off. The other is taking the week before Christmas break off, so she’ll actually have three total weeks off. Perhaps some fault should go to their principal for approving their requests for time off.
  • Texas electricity prices up 43 percent this year, reflecting new price adders
    • Power generators hit pay dirt this summer when hot weather in August triggered surcharges approved earlier this year by Texas regulators, sending wholesale electricity prices soaring more than 40 percent, with the higher costs likely to be passed onto households and businesses.
  • Buddy Hackett was an exceptional comedian.

  • I didn’t watch this video but I alway assuming housing developers simply wanted to fit more houses in lot and the easiest way to do that was to cut down the size of land.

Bag of Randomness for Tuesday, November 5, 2019

  • I’m thinking all playing cards should be made like the ones above, it’s much easier to hold in your hands.
  • Welp,  as I expected, DaughterGeeding didn’t make the middle school basketball team, but I admire her for trying and trying to achieve something despite the odds being stacked against her. She had a good attitude about the whole thing. My only complaint is that only parents of players who made the team received an email, the parents of those who didn’t make the team were never informed. I would have preferred everyone be informed at the same time.
  • While watching the Cowboys game last night, WifeGeeding wondered why Jason Witten was wearing a Darth Vadar patch on his jersey. In the most nonjudgemental way, I informed her it’s the Walter Payton Man of the Year patch which previous winners wear. She’s not the first to make that mistake or comparison.
  • That black cat running on the field was some great entertainment. It would have been neater if this happened back on Monday Night Football during its glory years, there’s no telling what Don Meredith or Howard Cosell wold have said.
  • CVS rejects Purdue student’s Puerto Rican ID, asks for immigration papers to buy cold medicine
    • When he showed his ID – one that met the Real ID criteria – a clerk told him it wasn’t enough. “She said I needed a visa,” Guzman Payano said. “I tried to explain that Puerto Rico was part of the United States. I didn’t need a visa or anything. She just said the same thing three times.” He said he had his passport, so he showed that, with no luck. He said the store employee told him he still needed to see some sort of immigration status before he could buy the cold medicine.

Bag of Randomness for Monday, November 4, 2019

  • We ain’t got no slab leak, so that’s a good thing.
  • I was in Costco on Sunday and it seemed like one in three people were wearing the red and black buffalo check pattern. Dude, I get it’s trending or in style, but why does everyone want to dress the same?

  • BoyGeeding wrapped up his first season of coach-pitch baseball on Saturday. He had a really great game, so much so, he was presented with the game ball. I can’t help but compare him to myself. Like me, he pays close attention to coaching and any instruction and very disciplined during gameplay. Unlike me, he doesn’t get nervous and simply has fun. Unlike me, he’s actually pretty good. He gets to bat anywhere from five to seven times a game and hits it every time. He’s only been thrown out three times all season. But I noticed he has a choppy swing, that he focuses on hitting the ball and not following through. His throw is also a little choppy and not very fluid, but he’s got solid fielding skills and is the only kid in the league I’ve seen catch the ball while playing catcher. He also has a bad habit of not running at full speed and slowing down before reaching a base. I have a feeling his favorite part of the game is running to home base and scoring a run.
  • I’ve introduced BoyGeeding and DaughterGeeding to the original Addams Family television series and they are hooked.
  • We made our annual voyage to the pumpkin patch and this was the first year they really embraced the merry-go-round. It was really cool seeing them do all the fun stuff I remember doing as a kid, all the fun stuff like laying down in the middle, trying to cross from one side to another while it’s spinning, jumping off, and working with the other kids to get it spin as fast as possible. You know, I was really impressed with the kids, despite none of them knowing each other and being of different ages, they all worked together and were very caring towards one another. As much as love this classic playground mechanism, it’s easy to see why they aren’t around much anymore. There were many close calls of kids falling off and almost getting their foot, hand, or head caught underneath. It’s amazing how me and my friends never really got injured in our youth.
  • I saw my first Christmas commercial of the season last night. Well, it’s the first I’ve noticed.
  • Discovery Channel Pits ‘Man vs. Bear’ in New Competition Series
    • Each week three grizzlies — Bart, Honey Bump and Tank — will take on three new human competitors (male and female) at their Utah sanctuary to test the limits of strength, speed and stamina. All of the challenges — from a game of “tug of war” to using brute force to roll giant logs — will be based on the bears’ natural instincts as well as predatory skills and actions.

Bad of Randomness for Wednesday, October 30, 2019

  • Sorry for the absence, I’ve been busy with work, life, and hourly laziness and procrastination.
  • I noticed one of our laminate floorboards was slightly warped so I carefully removed it to inspect what’s underneath. There was a bit of a musty smell. I’d actually like to say it was a moldy smell but fear I’m allowing my brain to overreact. The concrete slab foundation had some black spots which led me to think it could possibly be mold, so I removed another board, then another, and another, and the next thing you know I’ve removed a lot more than I intended. We did have a small flooding problem not too long ago which could have caused this situation, but then again, it could be a slab leak. I’ve filed a claim and our insurance is sending someone out to test for a slab leak, which is part of our coverage. No matter the case, we’re getting new floors and considering polished or stained concrete all throughout the first floor. If y’all have any local recommendations for such services, let me know. #Developing
  • Vertically-challenged DaughterGeeding is a fourth-grader and has decided to try out for the fourth-thru-six-grade girl’s basketball team. I admire her for trying but certainly don’t expect her to make the team. Oddly, tryouts are on Halloween about an hour after school lets out. However, I hear the forecast during trick-or-treating hours on Halloween calls for rain and a wind chill in the thirties. #GoodCuddlingWeather
  • I found a cute mother and daughter dress set and decided to dress up my wife and daughter for church. They got a nice round of compliments. I think the set for both dressed was under twenty bucks on Amazon. #WhoWoreItBetter?
  • Herschel Walker is promoting Donald Trump Jr’s new book.
  • Per the Cotton Bowl’s Wikipedia page, Journey recorded two videos in the 1980s in the Cotton Bowl.
  • SNL doesn’t have any reoccurring character skits anymore and I’m not sure why. Keenan should bring back “What’s Up With That?”
  • An overlooked “Stranger Than Fiction” event of Watergate –  Nixon’s Attorney General, John Mitchell, had his security detail kidnap, beat, and sedate his wife Martha (an outspoken socialite) to keep her from speaking to reporters.
    • What can be more “Stranger Than Fiction” than that? The kidnapper is now the US Ambassador to the Czech Republic, he was nominated by President Trump in 2017.
      • He has no diplomatic experience and had never spent a day in Prague before taking up his post there on December 7. Radio Prague, the official state news outlet, called him “a rich Republican businessman…who worked for the FBI early in his career.”
  • Paralympian skier Josh Sundquist has a good sense of humor about having one leg and always does a great job dressing up for Halloween.
