Bag of Randomness for Tuesday, April 30, 2024

  • I’m surprised I didn’t come across this fact during the eclipse, but yesterday I discovered that the shadow of an eclipse runs close to 5,000 mph.
  • I wrote about how odd South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem was back in May, before she boasted about literally blowing the head off a puppy with a shotgun. That’s not a joke. I should have guessed her first bit of odd behavior was just the start of things to plug an upcoming book and to be vetted for Trump’s VP. Some think she doesn’t have a chance, but I’m thinking she wanted to get out ahead of this story and put it out there. It’s better to come out with this story on your own than to have it leaked.
  • 97.1 The Eagle is back on the air playing music again, but I hear there’s a bunch of AI involved. No telling what iHeart is up to.
  • American Airlines repeatedly mistakes 101-year-old woman for a baby
    • Patricia, born in 1922, confused American Airlines’ booking system when entering her birth date, causing airline computers to assume she had been born in 2022.
    • It isn’t the first time the centenarian has encountered the issue when flying with American Airlines to visit family, much to the confusion of the “helpful” cabin crew when “the same thing happened last year”. On one occasion, the 101-year-old was kept waiting for a wheelchair to deplane as airport staff had not arranged mobility assistance for her to travel through the terminal.
    • I say the airline makes up for it by giving her a lifetime pass.
  • U2 star Adam Clayton announces shock divorce from wife

    • Four Dallas high schools and one in Grand Prairie were named in the top 85 of the list, with three Big D schools landing in the top 30.
    • One school has an interesting name: Judge Barefoot Sanders Law Magnet
      • If you are wondering about the man, here’s the top paragraph of his Wiki: Harold Barefoot Sanders Jr. (February 5, 1925 – September 21, 2008) was an American attorney, politician, and jurist who served as a United States district judge of the United States District Court for the Northern District of Texas and counsel to President Lyndon B. Johnson. He was best known for overseeing the lawsuit to desegregate the Dallas Independent School District.
      • As for the name: “Barefoot” was the maiden name of his paternal grandmother, Dennie Barefoot.
  • This is about a week old, but really, who shoots a dolphin? – Officials offer $20,000 reward in case of young dolphin found shot to death on Louisiana beach
  • This had a better chance at passing if it was proposed by anyone else, even Satan – Cruz proposal for lawmakers facing threats to get special airport security escorts is blocked
  • It happens around the 11-second mark.
