Bag of Randomness for Tuesday, October 4, 2022

  • I’m sorry I didn’t post yesterday. Sometimes the grief over the loss of your family will sneak up on ya and grab your attention for much longer than you’d ever want.
  • I know it’s October, and the NFL has a campaign against cancer. But I don’t understand why so many coaches and personnel were wearing hoodies on the sidelines in a comfortable temperature-controlled environment. Was a shirt option not available?
  • I’m not a Washington Commanders fan, but I liked those all black uniforms.
  • I’m surprised at the number of holes and openings football helmets have these days. The way they are designed interferes with a lot of logos and decals. I have a feeling a lot of those holes and openings are cosmetic and don’t serve a real function. Or, that helmets could be made where the holes and openings don’t interfere with the decal. But, I suppose the other argument is why aren’t the decals simply modified?
  • I can’t remember the year. It was over a decade ago, and I was still driving my 4-Runner. But, I recall listening to football scores on the radio and realized I had what I refer to as a [insert your preferred rare-earth or precious metal here] sports weekend. My favorite college and pro football teams both won, and the teams I enjoy to root against (aTm, Oklahoma, Baylor) all lost. I remember in that moment wondering when such a series of events would happen again for me. For years I used to track those five scores (the Mavs and Rangers may have also been included for the ultimate sports weekend, so I guess it happened in mid to late October), and eventually gave up on it because those other teams were so good and built for the long haul and my teams stunk. But this oddity basically happened this past weekend. For the record, the Rangers lost their games over the weekend, my high school lost by a point, yet Hardin-Simmons pulled out a victory. I wonder if I’m the only person who looks for a perfect sports weekend where all my favorite teams win and all the ones I root for lose.
  • There’s a lot to digest here, and my immediate thought was the opening scene from the film Idiocracy – 22-Year-Old Rapper NBA Youngboy Welcomes 10th Baby
  • Good to hear something could be fun, viral, and do good – The Ice Bucket Challenge wasn’t just for social media. It helped fund a new ALS drug
  • I’ve always wanted to know the story behind those SNL photos you see of the guest hosts after a commercial break, this will be the closest I come to it. I can’t believe I never picked up on that turkey. – ‘SNL’ is back. Here are the stories behind the show’s iconic photos
  • I ain’t no zoologist, but that ain’t no cheetah.
  • I placed an online lunch order for some Boston Market. I had no problem placing the order of my credit card being charged, but I had a problem with the facility. No one was there. Someone didn’t open up the restaurant. All I could do was go to their website and fill out a comment card.
  • I caught a little bit of the new 97.1 after they stopped playing Waiting Is The Hardest Part on repeat. It was weird hearing Rhyner and another old Ticket personality on it.
