- Today is my friend Jimi’s birthday. He will let you know it’s the day before tax filing is due, the day the Titanic hit the iceberg, and when Lincoln got shot.
- I’m looking forward to Friday, May 27. DaughterGeeding and I love to watch Stranger Things together, and the new season drops on that date. We also love watching Star Wars together, and the first two episodes of Obi Wan Kenobi will be available. Sadly, I don’t have her that weekend. But, per the stupid divorce decree, she and her brother get to stay the night every Thursday during the school year, and May 27 falls on the last week of school. A teacher workday is scheduled for that day, so if she lets me watch the kids while she works, we may just start watching things at midnight.
- It’s a good yet bittersweet thing, but I’m getting used to this new normal. What might be helping is BagelGirl, who has me smitten. I haven’t felt these giddy feelings in 20 years. When I talk about her, I feel like Aladdin talking to the Genie about Jasmine. It’s weird telling myself it’s okay to have these feelings again, that it’s not cheating, it’s growing and moving on. Now, if I can only get the courage to ask her out.

- Wealthiest Americans pay just 3.4% of income in taxes, investigation reveals
- Between 2014 and 2018, the 25 wealthiest Americans collectively earned $401bn, but paid just $13.6bn – about 3.4% of that – in taxes, according to a bombshell ProPublica investigation into the finances of the wealthiest Americans released on Wednesday. The investigation is the latest in a series ProPublica started in June 2021 that looks at the tax records of the top 0.001% wealthiest Americans. This installment uses a trove of tax filings from 2013 to 2018 to dive into the wealth of the 400 richest Americans, all of whom earn more than $110m a year. It found that the wealthy benefit from lower tax rates on financial assets and deductions from charitable contributions to keep their taxes low.
