Today in Texas History, we learn of another fertilizer explosion that was larger than the one in West, Texas

Lots of crazy similarities . . .

  • Both involved fertilizer
  • The explosion in West happened on April 17 while the Texas City explosion happened on April 16, 1947
  • The names of both of the cities are quite unique, and both are of course in Texas.

If you are in a crunch for time, just skip to the 2:30 mark, and here’s the Wikipedia entry. It’s amazing that it registered as an earthquake in Denver.

[Thanks, Warren]
