Bag of Randomness

  • The second foundation repair person came over to GeedingManor and gave us a much different story from the man that came over the previous day.  The first man, if you recall, stated that our foundation was fine after walking around the entire house, and using his electronic floor level thingy, and just basically provided us with some suggestions to keep our foundation sound.  The second guy, who arrived late and got lost finding our house using his GPS device, told us our without using his floor leveling thingy and not even walking all around the house that repairs would cost about $12,000.
  • I found that price interesting because my neighbor recently had his foundation repaired, of which, only a third of the foundation needed repaired and cost about a third of the quote the guy gave us.  When I asked the man if the whole foundation needed repaired, he said it needed to be and I could either do it now or do it later.
  • He then asked if I had anyone else come out, and when I told him a man came out yesterday and told me the foundation didn’t need repaired, he said that’s pretty much what he said, that we could repair it now or repair it later – but I don’t recall telling him that the other guy told us it was ever going to need to be repaired.  It was like he was trying to save face.
  • I also asked the guy what all went into the price, which included a root barrier and french drain.  I found it interesting that he would quote a price first, and then break it down for me, but only when I prodded.
  • He also gave me one of those stories that this was his grandfather’s business and how it has been passed down.
  • Strange how I two totally different answers, huh?
  • Now I’m debating if I should have a third guy come out.
  • I’m not much of an American Idol fan, but I really like Simon because he actually provides feedback with substance.
  • Speaking of that show, they were in Boston last night, and I noticed they were in the hotel that I stayed in for two weeks, the Seaport.  Actually, it looked like they were in two different hotels because of the view behind the judges, but there were times where I actually saw the Seaport name and I recognized several areas of the hotel.
  • Two song selections from last night impressed me, “Yesterday” by the Beatles and “Hallelujah” by Jeff Buckley.
  • Speaking of “Hallelujah,” I posted this link before but I don’t mind posting it again – here’s a collection of many different artists singing that mesmerizing song.
  • I start teaching again tonight for six weeks, not sure what if any posts will happen tomorrow.
  • Colt, you don’t know what you are getting into marrying a girl from Baylor, trust me.
  • For Christian fans of U2, here’s an article that might interest you.
  • Speaking of U2, I heard one of their songs on a NASCAR commercial on Fox.
  • Gene Wilder hasn’t done anything in a while, he’ll turn 77 this June.
  • Who knew Sarah Palin, Las Vegas, and alcohol would mix?
  • I have an Alaskan friend that types Sarah Palin as “Sara Palin” – he says he refuses to finish typing her first name by adding the “h” because she refused to finish her first term as governor.

I would definitely be getting a third opinion on the foundation issue. Also I would recommend checking the companies on Angie's List to see how satisfied past customers have been.

I agree with Heather I would get a third opinion and maybe even a fourth. Angie's list is a great place to find contractors. The company I work for is on there, Advanced Foundation Repair.
