Preachers and Weddings

When I was in Abilene for the scholarship meeting last weekend, I asked one of my pastor friends a question in regards to the number of weddings and funerals he had officiated.  The other pastor in the group replied, “I’m a lot more selective in who I marry.”  Everyone understood what he meant, but the line itself made it sound like he himself has married many a time and we all had a good laugh.

That memory came to mind as I read this little rant from a Methodist pastor about the size, cost, and meanings of weddings regarding young people.  I thought the pastoral readers and others of this website might find it insightful.

Well said. The average cost of a wedding is $21,000?? How did this tradition get started? And how did it get so far out of control?
