Dodge Ball

It's Saturday night and I'm channel surfing and I'm stuck between watching a repeat of Tommy Lee Goes to College and Extreme Dodgeball on the Game Show Network. I had no idea dodgeball was televised, but was even more surprised to see Jeremiah Trotter of the Philadelphia Eagles participating. Figured there would be some type of clause in his contract keeping him from doing such things. As a Cowboy fan, I hope he gets dinged in the nuts.

Read more a about him here:

Any sex offenders in your neck of the woods?

From the U.S. Department of Justice: National Sex Offender Public Registry.

I did a search using my state and zip code and found wayyyyyy too many in my area.

Speaking of searching using state and zip, why is on most websites when you enter a zip and perform a search, you also have to enter the state? Shouldn't the zip code be enough?

The same thing happend to me when I was looking for a WAMU branch:

It's the little things in life that makes you happy.

The feeling of warm clothes out of the dryer, clean bed sheets, new socks - all are great warm fuzzies of life. But none of them compare when the ESPN's The Sports Guy has a new ramblings:

So you like to throw darts and you like European cities?

Well then, I have the game for you?

You are given a cityk, and then you have to throw a dart where you think the city is on the map. In case you are wondering, I missed Madrid by 418 km.

A Geeding Restaurant Review . . .

This week is KRLD's restaurant week. Which you can read more about here: http://www.guidelive.com/feature/180/

Basically, you can eat at a place you normally can't afford for $30 ($6 of it goes directly to charity). For this price, diners get a three-course meal: appetizer, entree, and dessert.

WifeGeeding (in front of the entrace) and I decided to check out III Forks located on the Tollway. I have always heard that is was a great steak place, and I just had to find this out for myself.

Setting
All you have to do is look for the golden dome, and I will say that the outside is much more pleasing than Smith and Wollensky's (which looks like a funeral home and makes me think of Monica Lewinsky). Upon entering the place, wifeGeeding stated that I have to give it the highest score possible for setting. Very warm atmosphere, and very Texan, but not in a cheap red-neck sort of way. Exactly what one would imagine a fine dining restaurant should look like. I was told there are a total 13 dining rooms. We at in the Lafayette dining room. Very warm and cozy, and the ceiling looked as if it was hand painted with themes of huting and the outdoors. Check out this link for some visuals on the other dining rooms: http://www.3forks.com/dining/. There's an upstairs which appeared to be for larger parties or conferences, and a cigar room I know Praider would love. Adjacent to the Lafayette room is the Couryard that has a lot of natural lighting. This isn't the kinda place that one would want to arrive in wearing jeans and a polo, proper atire is required. The live music is also a nice touch.

Selection and Our Grub
A loaf of warm bread is brought to the table to tie you over as you look over the menu. Very warm, very soft with a nice crust, just the way I like it. WifeGeeding went with the tomatoe soup and I had the III Forks Salad for appetizers. She loved her soup. I'm not much of a soup eater (or is that drinker or sipper?) but I found it very tasty. The salad had some type of vinaigrette with a tad of fruit flavor and sliced apples. One of the best salads I have ever eaten.

For dinner we both had the chateaubriand, aka steak or a filet. It was served on a very warm plate with mashed potatoes, off-the-cob cream corn, and sugar snap peas. If you wanted, a server would come by and offer fresh tomatoes and onions to add to your meal. The steak was cooked to perfection, and served with some type of worcestershire. I usually prefer not to have any type of sauce on my steak, but this definately added to the flavor. Not overbearing, but just the right compliment. The potatoes were very tasty, and the corn may be better than the cream corn at Babes. I know that is a profound statement, but it was that good. Maybe because there are a few more spices in the III Forks corn.

For dessert we had a choice of orange cake or a caramel sundae - we went with the sundae. All of their icecream is homemade, and very delicious. It was topped with roasted pecans that appeared to be sprinkeled with a sugar and cinnamon coating. If I was into cinnamon, I would have loved it, but overall it was a good dessert.

III Forks has a great selection of steak and seafood. Here is more info on their selection if you are interested: http://www.3forks.com/menu/

Price
Since this is Restaurant Week, it was a great price. Otherwise, you can expect to pay about $35 for a steak.

For a lack of a better name . . . Other Stuff
Service was spectacular, the best I EVER experienced. I thought we would have been treated a bit different since we were there for Restaurant Week, but this was certainly not the case. More than one server waited on us, and you can tell that they all work well together as a team. It was a delight to hear them say "my pleasure" in a tone in which they sounded as if they really meant it. My glass never empty, and everytime I left my seat to use the restoom, my napkin was refolded in that special setting kinda way. Speaking of restrooms . . . they were very nice and there were no paper towels but nice fluffy cotton hand towels. Another big plus, we had three different managers come by just to check on us. The service was so great I was wondering if they mistook me or wifeGeeding for a celebrity or something. It is also worth mentioning that III Forks is an independent restaurant, and not associated with any chain - so every employee seems to take pride in what they do. WifeGeeding is a stickler for one thing, she noticed that one of the hostesses was chewing gum as she seated some customers, and this is a big no-no in wifeGeeding world.

Overall
This is a darn good place, and everything I thought it would be. If only I could afford to eat there every day of my life.

Out of a possible five bags, it gets five bags!

Update on Eric

For those of you who do not know Eric, he is a Captain in the U.S. Army. He is a Christian and is married to Heather. We met when we were in college at Hardin-Simmons University. Eric has been stationed in Iraq and has been sending emails to a group of his friends keeping us up to date on his daily happenings. On 1 Aug 05, he was injured by a car bomb. Though banged up, he is recovering back home in the Washington. Here is his latest communication:

Well...some of you were interested in what experience I had to endure on 1AUG. Here are two pictures, one of me moments afterward and one of my stryker. The one of me is kind of bloody, but not too gruesome, ..but it is my pretty face. The other is my stryker...and what is left.

These pictures were taken by the Army Times photographer we just so happen to have with us that day. I just got these today from my buddy Jim Dunn as he just arrived home today on early flight out.

Sorry, if you would have rather not seen these and I sent them to you. I tried to be very particular in who I sent these to. Trust me, I don't want my face like this posted on some stupid website.

God Bless,
Eric

The First Posting

This is the first posting. Basically just testing to see if this thing works. Yes, I know this icon is taken from Bone, but I was the one that sent it to him and I needed some extra text to type to see if this text wrapping thing actually works. So far I still need more things to type, and still unsure as to what to type. Hopefully this will be the first posting of many more posts. OK, the text wrapping actually looks like it works, so I think it's all good.
