That’s a pile of dog crap

A growing number of North Texas apartment complexes are using DNA testing to trace pets and fine owners who ignore poop-scooping regulations.

“It should reduce or eliminate dog waste on the property,” predicted Jennifer Okland, community manager at the Gates of Allen Station, the latest area complex to require DNA testing for dogs.

The results of the simple cheek swab will be kept in a database by a private lab. Any pet waste found on the property will be matched to its pooch. Owners face fines ranging from $200 to $350.

The approach is being embraced by private dog parks, homeowner and condominium associations, RV parks and apartment complexes throughout the U.S. and Canada, according to PooPrints, a Tennessee-based company that has about 30 customers, mostly apartment complexes, in the Dallas area.

  • I got my Chromebook replacement screen in the mail, and after watching a short YouTube video I was up and running in less than five minutes.  Forty-five bucks for a new screen is cheaper than a $250 replacement, but then again, I’d save $45 bucks if I didn’t leave it on the floor to be stepped on.  Lesson learned.
  • We couldn’t find DogGeedingII for the longest time last night.  Heck, I was even walking around the neighborhood with a flashlight.  Later WifeGeeding calls to tell me that he fell asleep in BoyGeeding’s room, who was put to bed about an hour before I started searching.  I think he was so tired from the dog park that he didn’t even hear us leave the room yesterday after storytime.
  • Speaking of dogs, there’s a local story of a vet who instead of putting down a dog like he said he was going to, he kept it alive in deplorable conditions for blood transfusions and experiments.  Many people are commenting that he looks like Santa, but since we’re talking about animal experimentation, a better comparison would be to say he looks like the old rich guy from Jurassic Park.
  • I’m one of those that think if you are an dog owner and want to put your dog down, then you need to present for the event, you owe the dog that much.
  • Considering ‘May the Fourth’ is Star Wars day, I don’t understand why the Star Wars folks didn’t wait a week to reveal the cast of Episode Seven on that day.
  • One day my kids shall watch the entirety of Star Wars with their father, and they will watch it in the only acceptable manner, in the order they were released, not episode order.
  • I keep having this dream about inventing time travel, but it always ends in death because in my calculations I fail to take into account the orit of the Earth around the sun and the planet’s rotation – so the person is sent back in time but not to a particular place in time – he just appears in deep space and dies.
  • I hear parents complaining about the number of standardized tests children have to take.  I wonder if students get to take any sort of practice tests modeled after the real thing to get familiar with it.

  • I went to Subway yesterday during the lunchtime rush in which the line was consistently ten deep.  The woman in front of me was ordering for a group.  At one point the sandwich artist asked her what cheese she wanted and she responded with, “Hold on, let me text her and find out.”

  • I heard one reason Toyota chose Plano as their North American headquarters over Dallas is because of the Dallas school system.  It’s no surprise that the school district doesn’t have a great reputation, but since most workers commute to downtown from the burbs, I’m surprised that DISD was a factor.  With a GM plant in Arlington and Toyota in Plano, DFW is motor friendly.  Can we get a Tesla plant please?
