  • Sometimes I look at food and wonder how humans ever thought this was edible or could be prepared in such a way to taste good.
  • I’m not sure if my old friend Brent reads this blog anymore, but his wedding came up in conversation yesterday. It was the most unique wedding I ever attended. The preacher actually made the bride walk up and down the aisle twice. I wrote about it back in September 2011. I wrote with more enthusiasm back then, hopefully I can do so once again.
  • Okay, it’s time for the Kelce brothers to go hibernate and leave the public eye until the next football season. However, I did hear Jason talk about how his brother had to move out of his house because of all the Swifties peeking and knocking on his windows. I haven’t really thought about it, but Travis has certainly made a lot of sacrifices to be in this romantic relationship. Sure, he was already a celebrity, but this sort of celebrity is much more than what he even bargained for.
  • Dolph Lundgren, who is fighting a form of kidney cancer, and his wife recently became U.S. citizens. He’s 66 and his wife is 27.
  • I saved this one question for the last bullet because I have a feeling it’s what you will remember most about this post and something you’ll contemplate all day.
    • If you spoke to your friends the way you spoke to yourself, would they hang around?
  • Here’s the four-minute version of the Ben Affleck Dunkin commercial. My favorite part is when he’s talking to a social media influencer who doesn’t know who he is and he says, “I’m kind of a influencer of sorts. I do some acting and writing and directing of movies which are a long-form of entertainment that was popular in the 20th century.”
  • On my way home from trivia night I heard a radio personality state that the Canadian broadcast of the Super Bowl is different than how it’s broadcast in the U.S. I did a quick search and found this:
    • Canadian broadcasts only feature Canadian commercials. This is due to a 2019 Supreme Court of Canada ruling that aims to protect Canadian broadcasters and keep advertising dollars in Canada.

  • It was so great watching Jon Stewart host The Daily Show again.
  • I never heard of the word bougie until watching a Kevin Hart video about a Michael Jordan charity event auction he hosted.
  • I thought military flyovers at sporting events were no big deal, easy peasy stuff. But, yesterday I watched a 22-minute video about all the work that goes into it. For instance, the Air Force had these two guys with “light guns” on top of the stadium in Las Vegas for the Super Bowl.
  • Last Tuesday, I stated big hair was making a comeback. Yesterday on social media and the radio I heard Blake Lively getting a lot of compliments on her big hair. She must be a reader of my blog.
  • I thought this was a good story in Peter King’s latest weekly article. In 1980, Andy Reid blocked for Jim McMahon at BYU. In 1996, McMahon backed up Brett Favre with the Packers. Reid was on the staff as tight ends coach, and he was promoted to QB coach in 1997. McMahon, 37, decided to retire after the ’96 season. Said Reid: “His classic line was, ‘I know it’s time to retire when one of my linemen’s coaching me.’”

  • There’s no better-looking trophy in professional sports than the Lombardi Trophy. I like the tradition of the Stanley Cup and all, but the Lombardi just looks sharp, simple, and dignified.
  • Well, at least the Cowboys have won a Super Bowl more recently than the Niners. I think I’d rather my team not make the dance in three decades than make the dance three times and lose every time.
  • I wonder how the Kennedy family Super Bowl party was going until RFK Jr’s ad aired.
  • A man in Indonesia playing in a soccer game was struck by lightning and it was caught on video. I often get frustrated when football officials make players get off the field during a storm, but I now regret feeling that way.
  • Because I know faith in Christ is important to a lot of my readers, I thought they would appreciate this answer by Brock Purdy when asked about his faith.

  • Somewhat along those same lines, I recently read as a devout Catholic, President Biden has attended church more while in office than any president in at least 70 years.
  • I think Jesus wouldn’t appreciate the money that could be used for the poor and immigrants being spent for millions of dollars of Super Bowl ads.
  • Trump took a shot at Nikki Haley’s husband for not being at her events even though he’s on military deployment. Haley righteously defended her husband and spoke highly of our military, but I can’t overlook that she supported Trump after he mocked John McCain, attacked a Gold Star family, and called fallen military heroes “losers and suckers.”
  • An odd tweet I read yesterday and I couldn’t tell if the person was serious or not, “President Biden sent military jets to escort Taylor Swift across the Pacific from Japan.”
  • Governor Abbott’s campaign sent me a spam text during the second quarter.
  • Someone pointing out Andy Reid flashing the shocker gave me a good laugh. If you are unfamiliar with that, don’t look up the urban dictionary definition.
  • I wonder how much Taylor Swift spent flying from Japan and on her Super Bowl suite. Talk about a supportive girlfriend. I also wonder how much adrenaline she was running off of at the end of her performance, the flight, the jet lag, and just getting to her seat. Meanwhile, I debated on doing the dishes.
  • Supportive wife.

  • One of the better tweets I saw last night was, “I wish 1983 Jerry Falwell was around to see this halftime show.”
  • Good for her. But, it doesn’t matter what she does, someone is going to rip her.

  • Mitt Romney extending grace to both of our elder presidential candidates, “I’ve worked with the president and I haven’t seen anything that’s abnormal before. It was like President Trump saying Niki Haley three times instead of Nancy Pelosi; sometimes you say the wrong word… He said Mexico instead of Egypt. Everybody knew what he was saying and that’s not an unusual thing.”
  • And to think ESPN laid Merril Hoge off in 2017. If I owned an NFL franchise, I’d hire him as GM based on this one video alone.

  • Today marks the anniversary of one of the darkest days of my life.

  • Presidents and VPs (and their staff) should be more careful with classified docs.
  • Biden sure did get beat up yesterday. I’ve expressed concern about his age before. I thought it was interesting that the special counsel thought he would present himself as a sympathetic elderly man. To me, that’s not his personality, he’s too much a smart-ass and prideful. As for not remembering the dates of when he was VP and his son’s death, I’d just like to know how the question was asked. It’s one thing if the question was asked in years versus DD/MM/YYYY. For instance, I can’t automatically recall the death of my parents either in years or a specific date, it’s one of those things I don’t want to think about.
  • It’s well known that the Super Bowl halftime performer isn’t paid. The exposure they get is much more. But I never thought about it broken down like this and in these terms.
    • The NFL signs a $50M sponsorship deal. This year, it’s Apple. Artists get a ~$15 million production budget which covers 2,000 to 3,000 part-time workers, including set design, security, dancers, and marketing.
    • The Super Bowl is watched by 115 million people. Brands will spend $7 million for 30-second commercials during this year’s game, yet Usher will receive an uninterrupted 13-minute commercial for free, a $182 million value.
  • Medical billing is such a racket. I received a bill several weeks ago for $650. I held off on it because I already met my deductible and out-of-pocket maximum and figured insurance just hasn’t yet paid. Yesterday, I received a phone call asking for payment of the full amount. I told them I’d check into it. Today, I called the insurance company to verify things on their end. Then I called the company I received the bill from and they told me not to worry about it because they received a check from the insurance company ten days ago.
  • I’m telling you, it’s nothing more than guerilla marketing.

  • It wasn’t said word for word, and I disagree with it, but I had a person tell me I was responsible for other people’s ignorance.
  • A fault of mine I’ve recently identified is that I feel the need to provide context to whatever I’m talking about. I need to work on understanding that I don’t always need to paint the whole picture and recognize the moments when there’s no need to paint or even bring out a picture. I guess what I’m saying, less is more.
  • My gosh, this is impressive. Aliens maybe? Seriously, if I were a judge, I’d let the thieves (if they can find them) go immediately, high-five them on the way out, give them a pat on the bottom like a coach, and slow cap as they exit the door. My guess is it was some bubba in a Ford Ranger.Brazen Thieves Steal 200-Foot Tall Radio Tower in Alabama

“When he arrived, he called me Friday and said, ‘The tower is gone.’ I said, ‘What do you mean the tower is gone? Are you sure you are at the right place?’ you know. He said, ‘The tower is gone. There is wires everywhere, and it is gone.’”

  • Humble in defeat.

  • This photo of Brock Purdy looks like he’s a kid modeling for the Sears catalog.
