You never know unless you try

Hawkins.jpegSYDNEY (Reuters) – A plucky Australian schoolboy who asked a former Miss Universe to his school dance, only to be rebuffed, has finally had his dream date over lunch.

Daniel Dibley, 17, needed a partner for the school dance in the Australian country town of Bathurst, west of Sydney, and he decided to aim high.

He wrote to Australia’s best-known beauty queen, Jennifer Hawkins, to ask her to the dance, and was stunned when the 2004 Miss Universe accepted.

Principal defends dog spending

0926buddy2.jpegParent: Activity funds shouldn’t be used on Coppell school’s poodle.

But the principal at Coppell’s Lakeside Elementary says the school activity funds spent to care for Buddy the poodle, the school’s unofficial mascot, are dollars well spent.

According to documents one parent obtained from the Coppell school district, more than $2,300 was spent on the dog from Aug. 8, 2005, to June 12. The expenses included $65 grooming appointments, $94.65 for X-rays, $136.97 for immunizations and a $1,245 surgery last year to repair a broken hip Buddy suffered while riding in principal Mark Lukert’s car.
