Reports Conflict About Fred Thompson’s Church Membership, Attendance

fredthompadsfas.jpgA Southern Baptist Convention leader weighed into ongoing debate about GOP presidential candidate Fred Thompson’s churchmanship, claiming he attends a Presbyterian church in the Washington area “on a regular basis.”

The church’s pastor confirmed he has seen Thompson there but suggested “regular” attendance is an overstatement. And a pro-Thompson blogger said many of the now-official candidate’s religious supporters would be surprised if the Church of Christ-baptized Thompson is indeed now a Presbyterian.

Questions about Thompson’s religious affiliation have dogged the former senator and star of “Law & Order” since Focus on the Family founder James Dobson remarked in March he was under the impression that Thompson is not a Christian.

The Thompson campaign shot back by saying Thompson was baptized into the Church of Christ as a boy in the 1950s. A bio on Thompson’s exploratory Web site said he attended First Street Church of Christ while growing up in Lawrenceburg, Tenn., where he learned “the importance of family, hard work, faith and education.”

A political science professor at a Church of Christ-affiliated university responded with a tongue-in-cheek “I Saw Fred Thompson at a Church of Christ” Challenge on a blog, observing the former senator “may not be filling out an attendance card at a Church of Christ on Sundays.”

The Gospel According to the Master Chief

Kids these days, as you know, are spending hours, even days at a time playing that top-selling, uber-popular video game Halo, and its sequel, Halo 2.  Now, with Halo 3 arriving in stores next month to complete the trilogy, the excitement is mounting.  Will Cortana go over to the dark side, or will she lose her “mind”?  Will the Master Chief stop the Covenant before they manage to kill everyone?  Will the Flood rule supreme and assimilate all intelligent life in the universe?  Will Sergeant Johnson ever finish that cigar he’s always smoking?

This is the perfect time to introduce (da-da-da-DAAAAA!) the “Halo Bible Study”!

All is right in the world – The NFL is back

  • Prognosticating is hard.
  • The John Mellencamp song “This is Our Country” is already over played.
  • I wish NBC would have chosen another intro song, but at least it wasn’t Pink singing.
  • Faith Hill looked slutty.
  • Jerry Jones has some funny commercials as of late.  Too bad he’s the most marketable Cowboy.  It was interesting to see Jerry, Tony Romo, and Wade Phillips all in a commercial.  Wade actually shown some personality.  I think a funny nickname for Wade Phillips is Wide Phillips.
  • I thought it was a creative idea for the Colts to come out of a huge replica of their Super Bowl ring rather than some inflatable something-or-another.  I’m sure every Super Bowl champion will  follow suit from here on out, but the Colts will always be the first.
  • I wonder if the NFL on Fox will change their graphics package.  The futuristic robot package with all the mechanical sound effects was cool when it first came out, but honestly, it’s old and it’s time for them to come up with something new.
  • I bet the Jimmy Johnson Barry Switzer segment will be entertaining.
  • Curt Menefee will be the host for the Fox pre-game show.  If Fox was smart, they would have signed Dan Patrick as soon as he announced he was leaving ESPN Radio to host Fox pre-game.  You have to admit, that’s a damn good idea I just came up with.
