Bag of Randomness

  • Yup, yesterday was sonogram day, but for WifeGeeding it was more like an early Christmas.
  • I wasn’t as excited as WifeGeeding, but it was still a special day.  I’m just the type that likes to proceed with caution.  Perhaps that’s just part of my personality, or because I work in project management; I’ve learned that one should hope for the best but always prepare for the worst.  Thankfully, there wasn’t much, really, nothing at all, to worry about yesterday.
  • Personally, I was hoping for twins or triplets.  No, really, I was.  But there’s only one human in WifeGeeding’s belly right now.
  • We learned that FetusGeeding is 13 weeks and four days old and a whopping 3 ounces.  Man, they sure do grow up quickly.  They said that puts the conceive date at Sept 11.  I didn’t do the math, but I trust them.  Due date is June 4.
  • Yes, we waited a little long to have our first sonogram.
  • That fetus sure was active, moving around a lot and all.
  • The heart-rate was 156 beats per minute.
  • Oh, if you are interested in more sonogram pics, click here.  They probably look just about like all other sonogram pics, but don’t tell that to WifeGeeding – because these are special.
  • The doctors office was able to give WifeGeeding a prescription online, it went straight to our pharmacy.  Why the heck can’t this be done everywhere?  That whole take a piece of paper with a bunch of scribble is so outdated and prone for errors.
  • While waiting in the lobby, one lady found out she arrived three days early for her appointment.
  • During our visit, we were told that we should schedule a visit with some sort of perinatal  fetal medicine specialist for some tests that should be completed before the end of our 14th week.  For the heck of it, we called to see if they had any availability today, and lucky for us, an appointment was scheduled for us in just 15 minutes, which was just about how far away we were.
  • This specialist had a more advanced sonogram system that was able to measure spinal fluid or something like that.  Can you tell I really know my medical terminology?  Huh, I wish.  But the good news for us was that the amount of fluid that displayed was normal and doesn’t show a high risk for Down syndrome.
  • The sex of a fetus can be determined around weeks 18-22 in a pregnancy, and we are at 13-and-a-half-ish.  But the doctor and his assistant both took a guess from what they could see with their “advanced” equipment at this early stage and to my horror guessed that FetusGeeding is female.  Damn dang darn-it diggity grrr uggg!  What did I do to deserve this fate?  It probably has something to do with that time I lied to my parents back in junior high and God is just now getting back at me.
  • Trust me, I “just” want a healthy child and I guess will love that girl like nothing else, but all men want a son, and if they say differently, they are lying.  Men have certain fears about daughters, mainly fears that center around the teenage and college years.  You know, I bet WifeGeeding is behind this.  I know think females get to choose the sex of the baby and just won’t let us men in on the secret.  It’s a conspiracy I tell ya.
  • And I don’t want to hear “oh, will you love that little girl so much, she’ll make your heart melt, blah blah blah.”  At least not yet anyway.  I’m going through the different stages of grief, and right now I’m at denial because we are only a little past the 13th week.  I’ll move on to the next stage around week 22 or so.
  • You know that my medical insurance coverage has changed, so I want to get as much done before the end of the year as we can.  So far, so good.
  • I think the only moment that really moved me was when I heard the heartbeat.
  • You know what I found interesting, when we were at the first doctor and the sonogram was performed, the fetus was facing to the right.  But when we were at the other doctor’s office for the other sonogram, the fetus was facing left.  I’m surprised that kiddo didn’t try to moon us.
  • I wonder how the folks at PETA feel about about eating lab grown pork.
  • I had no idea that Funkhouser in Curb Your Enthusiasm is actually the actor that portrayed Super Dave Osborne.
  • Google has a collection of Search Stories that you might find interesting and entertaining.
  • Speaking of Google, I got an invitation to Google Wave last night, and I never requested one.  I haven’t had a chance to check it out, but from what a read, I think it’s over-hyped.  I’ll let you know more after I toy around with it.
  • Consumer Reports states that Verizon has the best cell phone service, AT&T and Sprint are the worst. Link
  • Charlie Gibson leaves the anchor desk on Dec 18 – man, his retirement sure does seem rushed.

The Christmas Tree – A Family Event

Merry Christmas from the Minters from Brent Minter on Vimeo.

This family (I have no idea who they are, I just thought it was a cute video) was a lot more productive at putting up the Christmas tree than what we were. Heck, we are basically doing the advent approach, and we are only doing that because I just made that up.

The Geeding Advent Christmas Tree Assembly Protocol

Week 1 – Get the tree out of the attic and assemble.
Week 2 – Decorate with lights.
Week 3 – Add ornaments.
Week 4 – Add star/angel to top of tree.

It’s a divide and conquer method and takes out the overwhelming frustration of getting the whole thing set up in one day. Or in my case, it just fits my procrastinator lifestyle. Now if I can just get WifeGeeding on board.
