Random Christmas Eve Thoughts

  • It’s snowing like crazy outside and it’s reported we are in blizzard like conditions.  That’s the first time I have driven in blizzard like conditions.  I might just have a white Christmas, at least I’ll have a white Christmas eve.  It’s a bit surreal to tell you the truth, to see Christmas decorations outside covered in snow in real life.
  • This morning I wake up and went to the store to pick up some artificial poinsettias for my parents grave.  Lucky for me, only two were left, and they were half off.  When I told the checkout lady what I was going to do with them, she asked me if I would like her to cut the tags off.  I thought that was very nice.
  • The line at the gas station to buy lottery tickets for a last minute gift was quite long.
  • As SisterGeeding and I drove to the DFW National Cemetery, we passed Texas Stadium.  I was surprised to see all the road construction around the place, and seeing that the parking lot was used for nothing more than construction equipment and mounds of dirt and rock.
  • As we approached the cemetery on this cold, wet, snowy morning we were stopped at the entrance as a funeral procession of about 70-100 cars passed us.  I knew it was for a fallen soldier as the Liberty Bell/Ten Commandments truck rolled by.  It must be quite interesting attending a funeral on Christmas Eve.
  • It was great having some brother/sister bonding time.
  • It’s fun seeing the dogs play in the snow, the seem just so confused about this stuff falling from the sky.
  • And to think it was about eighty degrees yesterday.
  • We plan on going to the Christmas Eve service at church.
  • We always open presents on Christmas Eve.

Sector Map of the Biggest News Stories of the Year

The website Journalism.org monitors the news from 55 outlets every week, calculating what percent of the week’s print, television, radio, and internet reporting is devoted to each story. Our latest Transparency is a look at the totals for all the news this year, divided into categories of politics, culture, business, and plain old bad news.

It’s an interactive map where you can zoom in on different areas, check it out here.

I’m not sure how accurate this map is, I thought the whole Jon and Kate thing was much, much bigger – I mean, the nation was on the edge of their seats awaiting their outcome.

Bag of Randomness

  • I got another Christmas card in the mail yesterday.  This one is from Sarina, a high school senior in Massachusetts, who wrote us a nice letter saying she’s been reading this blog since the seventh grade.  Funny thing, she found this blog by doing a Tom Brady search on the Google.  Sarina also wanted DogGeeding and OtherDogGeeding to get plenty of rest before BabyGeeding arrives, and she was nice enough to include a print she made in design class.  Best of luck with the college application process, Sabrina.
  • While shopping at Fry’s last night I went to the restroom where a father was in a stall with his toddler.  Usually it’s the toddler that has to go, but in this case, it was the father and the toddler was just walking around.  All I can think is that the father was being responsible, that is, if he was shopping alone, I mean, you just don’t want a toddler running around the store unsupervised – and I have this to look forward to.
  • That guy’s kid is probably gonna remember this night and it will haunt him for years.  One day he’ll be telling his friends the day his daddy had to go number two in the store and made him watch in the stall.
  • The one thing I don’t like about Fry’s, and many stores do this as well, is the cattle call check out line.  That is, all customers stand in one line, and then an associate will point them to an open register.  I know it’s more efficient, but now I know how cattle feel.
  • It looks like it’s gonna snow today, but there won’t be any snow on Christmas day.  One day, I wish I could experience a white Christmas.
