Bag of Randomness

  • I thought it was pretty cool that Keith Jackson got to do the coin toss last night.  And I appreciated his words right before the toss, even if they were hard to hear.
  • Not sure who I feel sorry for more, Colt McCoy getting hurt in his last college game, or his true freshman backup being thrown into the national championship game.
  • Congrats, Bama.
  • The Rose Bowl Stadium is something special, isn’t it?
  • As I mentioned earlier, I would take a Longhorn loss for a Cowboy win.
  • Craig James has confirmed he is interested in replacing Senator Kay Bailey Hutchinson when she steps away from her senate seat.  Man, that’s quite a surprise, and I wonder just how much the whole Texas Tech fiasco is going to influence votes should he actually run.
  • Man, there sure are some crazy rumors regarding Jay Leno.  It appears that after the Winter Olympics, he might be back in his old time slot, and I have no idea what that will mean for Conan or Fallon.
  • I’d feel more comfortable with the Tea Party movement if they were more vocal when the size of government and its debt grew tremendously during the last administration.
  • You may remember the movie critic Roger Ebert.  He can no longer eat or drink, and has recently written about it.  Quit interesting.
  • The new cast has been announced for Survivor: Heroes vs. Villains.  This could be the best season ever.  The only person I want to see that isn’t part of the cast is Terry, the Captain America former fighter pilot from Survivor Panama.
  • I’ll bet the entire house that the Cowboys will keep the roof closed this Saturday night.
  • Mark McGwire will play next year?

    TEA party:
Whether or not I agree with a group, I try to understand their points of view. Like you, I listen to theTea Party movement's outrage and wonder where it was during the previous administration. Were they unaware? Asleep? Their arguments seem to be rooted in fear, hatred and conspiracy theories. But they are DRAMATIC!! Great TV!

I can only pray the TEA party drama will serve a purpose. Maybe their 'loudness' will generate a rise in civic awareness that has been lacking. I do not see any realistic solutions in their rhetoric. In fact, just the opposite. But, hopefully they represent an awakening of America. If so, then there is hope.

No question, I feel much worse for McCoy than Gilbert. McCoy has put in all of this work to play in this game and then that happens to him. Gilbert is just a freshman and although he started off rusty I thought he looked pretty composed for the most part, and it was evident by the run he helped lead them too later in the game. It would have been classic for him to lead Texas to victory but it was just Alabama's time I guess. Heck of a game, for as poorly coached on both sides as it was.

Texas still has a bright future though.

The Rose Bowl is called the "Granddaddy of them all" for a reason. No other stadium sets a national stage like Pasadena. Honestly I think the title game should be there every year. And Keith Jackson, to me the voice of college football, to offer those words to the captains was a great touch. Classy guy that Jackson is.

I may have misheard a word or two but to paraphrase Mr. Jackson, "The Rose Bowl is hallowed ground. Enjoy it." I hope those players took that to heart the way I did just watching it on TV.

    Go Eagles.

The story about Roger Ebert was, indeed, very interesting…I was wondering how he was doing since his surgery. Very sad to read about his state of health
