- The university in which I’ve obtained my undergraduate degree has me on some weird mailing lists. They once sent my dog an invitation to attend a children’s event. They keep telling me to update my contact information stating this is the fourth and last attempt, yet I know I’ve gotten about ten of these stating it’s their fourth time contacting me. Last year I got a letter from the head basketball coach asking me to donate to the basketball program because I’m a former player (I never played college ball). And yesterday I got an email from the basketball department if I would like to take part in an alumni basketball game among fellow former players.
- Since the mention of PBS in last week’s presidential debate there’s been a lot of articles about The Learning Channel as of late. I didn’t know that it was started in 1972 as a non-profit with support from the Department of Health, Education, and Welfare and NASA. It later became privatized and has/had shows like “Trading Spaces”, “Jon and Kate Plus Eight”, “Hoarders”, “Toddlers and Tierras”, and “Here Comes Honey Boo Boo”.

This quote caught my attention, “I was sitting in the back of a taxi with a breast pump. I was weeping and telling myself, ‘Don’t cry—that’s dehydrating.’”

Man Dies in Bug Eating Contest
A West Palm Beach man has died after eating “a variety of insects” as part of a competition, according to the Broward Sheriff’s Office.
Edward Archbold, 32, was participating in a roach-eating contest at Ben Seigel Reptiles in Deerfield Beach, where contestants signed up to eat a variety of insects for the chance to win a python, BSO spokeswoman Keyla Concepcion said.
Shortly after the contest was over, Archbold complained of feeling ill and began to vomit the dozens of roaches and worms he had consumed, then collapsed in front of the store, Concepcion said.
Archbold was taken to a hospital, where he later died.
The medical examiner’s office is awaiting results of an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
Ducks Meet Water For the First Time
For the first time in their lives two dozen recently rescued ducks get their first taste of life in a pond. They had been living for years with a hoarder who had them in pens without adequate access to water or proper nutrition.

Bag of Randomness
- I never had an opportunity to attend a playoff game of any sort, and came pretty darn close this weekend, but thanks to the Rangers, these tickets will never be used.
- Spielberg has this new movie about Abraham Lincoln coming out that will surely dominate the Oscars, but my one complaint from the previews has been the voice Daniel Day Lewis has been using to portray Lincoln. But I recently discovered in this Smithsonian article, the late president actually had a shrilled, high pitched voice.
- In case you were wondering, the earliest recorded presidential voice was that of Benjamin Harrison back in 1889, and you can hear it here.
- I always thought Glamour Shots was nothing more than photo sessions for teenage girls, but I recently got this Groupon that showcases a boudoir photo session. I’ll be honest, I had to look up “boudoir”, but with it’s French sounding name, I had a idea it was something a bit naughty. And apparently, you can ever get a photo session for your favorite sports team.

- I watched the movie Butter this weekend. It’s a comedy about butter carving at the Iowa State Fair and has lots of stars such as Ty Burrell from “Modern Family”, Olive Wilde, Jennifer Garner, Hugh Jackman, Alicia Silverstone, Ashley Greene, Rob Corddry, and the lady that play Phyllis from “The Office”. I’d certainly recommend it if you aren’t easily offended by stuff.
