Since several of you mentioned Dr Greene’s death scene

Man, I forgot how much I really like that show (especially how it was shot, the whole walk-and-talk long takes), and I’m surprised (well, not really) that I teared up watching it.  Once again, “Over The Rainbow” is one hell of a song.

I cued it up to where the song is about to begin, so just hit play, but you can always rewind to catch his sendoff in full.

Thanks for ripping my heart out to start the day.

ER was phenomenal. Sure, it dipped into silliness, especially toward the end, but any series that runs for 300+ hour-long episodes is going to veer into the overly dramatic or shocking sometimes. But when you think about the entire run of the show, it was great. The cast was stellar, and most of them absolutely killed those roles. The editing/camerawork was strong and did a good job of creating tension.

The writing was generally crisp, and there are multiple episodes that are TV classics. ("Love's Labor Lost" is one of the best episodes of television ever written.) And the guest stars just pushed it over the top – William H. Macy, Ewan Macgregor, Alan Alda, Bradley Whitford, Ray Liotta (in another instant classic episode), James Cromwell, Sally Field, Don Cheadle, Bob Newhart, Stanley Tucci…the list goes on forever.

Obviously, I love ER. When we don't have any "new" shows to watch (mostly during the summer), my wife and I watch old series – we've gone through Friends and are now on the last season of Frasier. Sadly, ER isn't on Netflix yet. But when it is, that's our next series to revisit.
