  • Local News: Ebola, ebola, ebola, weather, ebola, ebola.
  • It’s amazing something serious hasn’t happened to President Obama.  There have been growing concerns with presidential protection ever since the Bush shoe throwing incident in Iraq.  Not only did an intruder make it well inside the White House recently, but a report yesterday stated that while visiting the CDC, a gun carrying security contractor convicted thrice for charges of assault and battery rode on an elevator with President Obama and wouldn’t stop taking pictures and video of the president even when asked by the Secret Service.
  • Secret service slip-ups: a handy guide to the agency’s most famous blunders – A soldier actually stole a helicopter and landed on the White House lawn in 1974.
  • I was telling a friend, a high school friend actually, about how I sought out specific classmates at the reunion to tell them what I appreciated about them and to apologize to the ones I felt I should have respected more.  He then tells me about this scene in the John Cusack movie High Fidelity and stressed one particular part, which made me feel like I was being selfish with my actions:
    • Rob: I want more, I wanna see the others on the big top-five. I want to see Penny and Charlie and Sarah, all of them. You know? Just see ’em and talk to ’em. You know, like a Bruce Springsteen song.
Bruce Springsteen: You call, you ask them how they are and see if they’ve forgiven you.
Rob: Yeah, and then I feel good. And they feel good.
Bruce Springsteen: They’d feel good, maybe. But you feel better.
Rob: I’d feel clean and calm.
Bruce Springsteen: That’s what you’re looking for, you know, get ready to start again. It’d be good for you.
      Rob: Great, even.
  • I had no idea that grocery store HEB sold Whatafries.

  • I found this gem on Reddit.  A bank executive’s parachute failed and if that wasn’t bad enough, she landed on a mound of fire ants.   But the fire ants was actually a blessing in disguise – The shock from being stung over 200 times by the ants released a surge of adrenaline which kept her heart beating.

  • I hear Ben Affleck wears a hairpiece.
  • Letterman has Maggie Q on the show last night.  She flew in her mentor who’s a huge Letterman fan and was sitting in the audience.  When Dave went into the audience to shake her hand it was quite touching to hear how much it meant to Maggie.  SisterGeeding has been campaigning for her entry into my Half-Asian Hall of Fame which I really haven’t kept updated.

I wish there were HEB's here. Love shopping there.

  2. WGII says:

THe Whatafries are delicious and addicting. It's amazing how much they taste like the real thing!

  3. Ben W. says:

Your take on the local news mirrors mine. I purposely avoided it after catching the first 2-3 minutes and realizing, "Oh, they're just going to talk about this relatively minor story for the next half hour, simply because of its sensationalism."

The NFL and everyone else is going pink. Yet, the month of September is childhood cancer awareness month. Did you see anyone wearing gold? With only 4% of government money for cancer research going to childhood cancer and only 1% for the American Cancer Society. I know you love children, this is my friends granddaughter Brooke's Blossoming Hope for Childhood Cancer Awareness. She is on facebook, maybe you can check her out. She really is an amazing little girl who has been fighting for 4 yrs now.

Outside of #14 that Reddit list of how Texas is so great is pretty lame.
