Bag of Randomness

  • We ate at Mother’s Daughters’ Diner in Lewisville on Friday and we either ate next to Rachel Bilson or her doppelganger.
  • On Saturday we ate at Peace Burger in Grapevine and their burger reminded me of Chips because the buns were covered in poppy seeds.  I use to frequent the Chips on Lovers when I was working around Uptown and was sad when it closed.  When trying to find the reason it closed I found an article posted on Friday about it being reopened in East Dallas.
  • Yes, we eat more than we should.
  • In the hard to believe department, our church planned a men’s retreat on Valentine’s Day weekend.
  • When watching the Golden Globes, I wish we had a option, with the technology we have today. to choose to hear all the censored stuff.  Nice to see ‘House of Cards’ get some recognition as well as ‘Parks and Recreation’ and a sendoff to ‘Breaking Bad’.
  • U2 is off to a good start this year with a Golden Globe, I just it leads to a great album when it drops sometime this year.  And did Diddy try to kiss Bono?  I will admit, the camera did follow Bono a bit too much last night.
  • We’re getting to the point that one can’t tell the difference between Michael and Kirk Douglas.
  • I caught the second episode of the new season of ‘Sherlock’ and I don’t think I ever smiled so much during a show.  I know ‘House’ was based off of Sherlock Holmes, but I’m seeing more of that kind of Sherlock in ‘Sherlock’ and even shades of Sheldon Cooper.
  • While it’s not a flying car, it’s still pretty cool – Audi’s Traffic Light Assistance Ensures You Never Hit a Red Light.  That story reminds me of my commute to church from Hardin-Simmons to South Side Baptist on Sunday mornings when traveling down Grape Street.  If I drove the speed limit on the first light and then drove five miles per hour slower on the next and repeated that pattern, I never had to stop until I got to Main.  You’d think something like that would impress the ladies, but it didn’t.
  • Speaking of college memories, one of my college friends is a mother of three and has been battling cancer for the past seven years.  Her doctor started to talk hospice options with her thinking she has about another six months left.  She’s a very eloquent writer, so maybe you should check out how she describes her journey and that trip to the doctor and put your Monday in perspective.
  • I’m trying to figure out what’s going on in Las Colinas at the shopping center on LBJ and MacArthur.  Towards the Kroger side they are demolishing a section that was connected to other sections.
  • There’s some new x-ray glasses that should make your trip to the doctor easier.  While they can’t see through clothing, they can see through skin enough to make finding a vein easier when drawing blood.
  • New York Mayor Bill de Blasio was recently caught eating pizza with a fork, expect Jon Stewart to go nuclear on him tonight.
  • I grew up with Dan Dierdorf in the Monday Night Football booth and couldn’t stand the guy.  I can still remember that Monday night game at New Orleans where the fans hung a huge banner that read “Get A Job Dierdorf”.  There was no way the camera could avoid that sign and at one point the broadcast crew had to talk about it.  As a kid, I thought it was sweet justice for someone I couldn’t stand, but now as an adult and listening to him broadcast his last game on Saturday night, I actually felt for the guy.
  • Hollywood Declares 2014 the Year of the Bible – Russell Crowe is Noah. Christian Bale is Moses. Brad Pitt is Pontius Pilate – Over the next 11 months, Hollywood is planning to release more big Biblical movies than it put out during the previous 11 years combined
  • The Pope says it’s okay to breastfeed inside the Sistine Chapel.
  • Have You Heard of Rep. Scott Turner? Meet The Future Of The GOP
  • AMC announces Mad Men & Better Call Saul premiere dates‏ –  April 13 and sometime in November
  • The Seattle Seahawks have a fullback named Derrick Coleman who’s is legally deaf and has a nice inspirational commercial with Duracell.
  • Google is adding a feature to GMail in which you can email someone without even having their email address.  It’s based upon how they’ve forced people to become a part of Google+.  If you don’t want everyone on Google+ to be able to send you an email, there’s an option to opt out.
  • I’m surprised that Polaroid is still alive, or that they continue the same business model of physical photos.  Their latest camera connects to social media but uses some sort of inkless technology for physical photos.  I just don’t see people wanting to carry a device other than their mobile phone.
  • I read that the makers of the film Fight Club initially wanted Russell Crow to play Tyler Durden, I would have liked to see that.
  • Google Glass fitness app lets you race against giant boulders, zombies, fire, virtual friends, and even an oncoming train.
  • The Updated History of Tina Fey and Amy Poehler’s Best Friendship
  • Chewbacca Is On Twitter, And He’s Posting Fantastic Behind-The-Scenes “Star Wars” Photos
  • A Rhode Island police captain was on paid administrative leave for two years.
  • Couple Marks 66th Anniversary With $15.75 Waldorf Astoria Hotel Room
  • Denver Teacher To Donate Kidney To Very Sick Student
  • There’s a public park in Grapevine that actually has a zipline for kids.  We decided to give it a visit on Saturday. DaughterGeeding loved it, and really loved the this tall slide as she kept riding it over and over again.  I also learned, no matter how fancy the device, your pictures/videos will turn out blurry if the lens isn’t clean.

  1. Uppercase Matt says:

While I haven't been there in a while, I think Chip's on Lovers is open.

  2. Uppercase Matt says:

Or are you talking about the old location in the former church on Armstrong/Cole? That one is closed.

  3. RPM says:

Will not shed a tear over Dierdorf (finally) retiring. He's one of those announcers you wonder how they got the job to begin with, but the bigger question is why do networks keep hiring him?

Sean Combs most definitely went for a kiss from Bono and Bono was not cool with that at all.

  4. Role Player says:

For me, Dierdorf seemed to take too much enjoyment whenever a player got his head knocked off…a little more sympathy would have been more appropriate.

I read in the DMN that he has two artificial knees and two hip replacements and they were restricting his ability to travel. There's a message in their for you young kids getting ready to start your NFL careers
