I’ll never understand why us men refuse to let our guard down and enjoy some of the most special and precious things about life.
This article may be pretty interesting to people in my field that work in project management and have to deal with government projects (hello, Doug!). It references an earlier article in the beginning that is also worth a read. – Can Agile development work for government, anyway?
I’ve now moved on to the Mitt Romney part of the book Double Down: Game Change 2012. Somehow I forgot that Romneycare was really a creation of the conservative think tank The Heritage Foundation and they actually wanted to implement the individual mandate federally. In the book Romeny seemed really proud of implementing Romneycare and didn’t really want to distance from it at all, but he was encouraged to so he could win the nomination. After the 2008 race he wrote a book called No Apology: The Case for American Greatness. It made the NY Times best seller list but had a double footnote that many Romney related organizations bought them in bulk and other high volume techniques were used (this practice is somewhat common, but normally only triggers a single footnote for bulk sales, bulk sales were insanely high for this book). As the 2012 race approached the paperback was released with a different title, No Apology: Believe in America, and the phrase “we can accomplish the same thing for everyone in the country” in reference to Romneycare implementation in Massachusetts was removed.
I remember as a kid taking a tour of the new Astrodome. The tour guide said Houston claimed it as the 8th wonder of the world. They must have changed their minds…
Just a clarification. Houston voters didn't "approved a measure to tear down the Astrodome". They rejected a proposition to spend $217M on converting it to a convention center. As a matter of fact, elected officials are stating that the demolition won't occur anytime soon, if at all. http://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/texas-voters…
I saw the Astros play in the dome in 1968. It was pretty spectacular to a baseball crazy 7 year old. I saw it again from the field when we played a high school playoff game there in 1977.
I loved that episode of the X-Files. It's one of my favorites. It had Peterman from Seinfeld as the "monster's" father, and Jerry Springer as well. I read in one of those X-Files fanbook/episode guides that after Cher saw that episode, she wished she hadn't turned it down.
I converted to Catholicism when I married my husband. But, the dogma was a huge turn off. I felt strongly that I didn't want to teach my kids all the many ways to hate. This pope gets it. He actually makes me want to go back to the church. I just wonder if the same core belief has trickled down to the congregations. I wish all our church leaders would take note of Pope Francis and his amazing way of spreading to the world the love of God.
