- I was reading an article about the Colorado theater shooting and I came across a Christian term I’ve never heard before . . . prevenient grace. I’m not sure what I think about it, but it’s something nice to contemplate and have a theological discussion about.

Prevenient Grace is but one of three modes of grace that Methodist buy into thanks to John Wesley…the other two are justifying grace and sanctifying grace. Prevenient is the coolest though, as it is said to work without you even knowing it…sometimes it's referred to as wooing grace that invites you to seek more….I kind of like the idea, because it's relational…
The posting about the little girl who was bitten by the rabid bat after the "self-appointed bat expert" gave her the go-ahead to hug it, reminds me of one of the 14 things that Dave Barry said he learned in life:
"Number 8: When trouble arises and things look bad, there is always one individual who perceives a solution and is willing to take command. Very often, that individual is crazy".
I went to a Methodist seminary even though I was raised Baptist and now go to a CM&A church. I had a professor that said, "The only irresistible grace is prevenient grace." BTW, "prevenient" isn't preventative, but "going ahead of." God goes ahead of us and sometimes prevents bad things (a flat tire might prevent an accident), but also woos. A trip to the Grand Canyon or a beautiful sunset might be an instance of prevenient grace where some people who don't have a relationship with God feel the truth that He's wooing them.
Not to get in a debate, but that's how Wesley saw salvation, too. Without God giving enough Grace for you to have a moment of clarity where you realize you need Him, you would be so broken, so dead, that you never would. At the moment where you can decide if you want to go ahead and come into relationship with Him, it is only because He has given you the opportunity to. At that moment, you can decide not to continue (whether or not to resist justifying grace) or to become what we'd call a Christian. If you do, justifying and sanctifying grace kick in. You can resist sanctifying grace (the grace that allows you to grow to be more like Jesus, selfless and loving) once you know Him, too. I know I have.

We spend the first few years of our lives being weened off of mother's milk only to drink an entirely different animals milk later in life. Seems rather ludicrous to me. I don't drink milk.
I'm already a regular CH47 viewer. I'm a sucker for The Rockford Files… This new program sounds very ambitious.
That pic's from San Antonio! Are we going viral or did you take it? Lol
I'd watch the oldies news. Maybe Jane McGarry will show up there.
