UAE hotel boasts ‘most expensive Christmas tree’

A glitzy hotel in Abu Dhabi has put on show a jewel-encrusted Christmas tree which it says is worth over $11m (£7m).

Items of jewellery studded with scores of precious stones are draped on the tree’s branches, along with more traditional baubles and lights.

While the tree alone is worth a mere $10,000, the jewellery adds more than $11m to the value, said the hotel’s general manager Hans Olbertz.

The Emirates Palace hotel would ask the Guinness World Records to certify the tree as the world’s most expensive, Mr Olbertz said. A jewel-encrusted Christmas tree in the Emirates Palace hotel in Abu Dhabi, the UAE Along with stars and lights, watches and bracelets adorn the tree

Because that is what is most important during the season…having a Tree worth 11mil while you pay those guards less that a $100 a day to keep an eye on it. Oh, the irony.

I agree that a tree worth 11m has nothing to do with the true reason of the season. It would still be a site to see. I am visiing in Dubai and plan to go see the tree. To me Christmas is family and I will be seeing this 11m dollar tree with them. Just like the 20 dollar tree we will be sharing at the apt. here in the UAE, hey both will have there own splendor. I'm sure my favorite wil be ours with our homemade decorations instead of jewels.
