Obama’s bipartisan deficit commission sure did bring some sobering news with that “Moment of Truth” report. Just a decade ago there was a surplus of funds and a major topic of the presidential election was what to do with the money – put it in a lock box or give it back to the taxpayers. I remember thinking how lucky I was just starting my career and what bright futures lay ahead for me and my country. Here’s hoping the next decade will be much better.
Virgin American celebrated its arrival to DFW International Airport yesterday, but surprisingly it wasn’t major news. The conspiracy theorist in me wants to think that both American and Southwest, both of which are locally based, worked something out with the news not to make it a leading story. I didn’t find the story on the home page of our local papers, and I noticed the local televised news didn’t include it as one of the major news topics of the day.
In an interview I heard Richard Branson state that one stipulation of being allowed to fly out of DFW was that he had to buy a minority stake in AMR.
With the Wright Amendment, which limits were Southwest (and other airlines) can fly out of Love Field, expiring in 2014 and Virgin American bringing more competition, hopefully all this competition will give us lower prices, much lower prices.
Virgin American’s welcoming ceremony to DFW was quite interesting. There was BBQ along with small herd of longhorn steers nearby. What I found interesting was Branson’s comment about the bovines, that passengers in the area have been herded like cattle onto planes. Obviously a shot a Southwest and their boarding methods, and I have to admit, I got a chuckle out of the comment.
The technology that Japan wants to bring to the World Cup is amazing, just click through this slideshow.
Survivor sure was interesting. I think if you quit the game, you don’t deserve to be part of the jury.
