I’m really eating up this whole Mainline church thing, and have never felt this refreshed, enlightened, accepted, and loved by God so much in my life. I wish I would have found you sooner, oh Mainline church. Seek and ye shall find, I guess.
One of my readers was nice enough to tell me about a United Methodist in Kansas, called Church of the Resurrection. It has about 16,000 members, and silly me, but I thought only Baptist and Bible churches could be called a mega-church. That reader also pointed out to me a series of sermons that might be to my liking. I have to admit I didn’t give it much thought at first, mainly because I don’t have much time in my day to dedicate to listening to sermons or podcasts, but since I had a series of tasks today at work that enabled me to listen to them and there wasn’t much on the sports radio scene, I decided to give them a try – and I couldn’t be happier.
The sermon series the reader recommended is titled When Christians Get It Wrong, and below are the topics of each sermon in that series.
- When Christians are Unchristian
- When Bad Things Happen
- When Talking About Other Religions
- When in Conflict with Science or Married to Politics
- In Dealing With Homosexuals
- When Christians Get it Right
I think some of my Evangelical friends may shudder at some of the things said in these sermons, maybe not, but for me, I found the sermons refreshing, elightening, and contemplative. It all just make me think of the concept of grace in a much more beautiful way.
I also decided to dig through the sermon archives and found another series to my liking, Windows on the Gospel: The Denominations of Christianity, with the following sermons as topics:
- The Orthodox Churches
- Catholicism: Ritual, Reverence & the Power of the Eucharist
- Lutheranism: The Protestant Reformation
- Presbyterianism: The Sovereignty of God
- Episcopalianism: Lex Orandi: Lex Credendi
- Baptists: Bible Study, Evangelism and Conversion
- Pentecostalism: The Power of the Holy Spirit
- Methodism: Grace, Holiness and the Via Media
Considering how much I’ve studied denominational differences as of late, this could possible be a godsend. I plan on downloading a lot of these and saving them on the laptop and transerring them to my Treo so I can listen to them during any free time. Here’s hoping a few of you will give them a try and find them just as meaningful.
I’m proud of you dude…it’s great to see you excited about your spiritual growth in a way that is quite energizing to your readers. I know I will be checking into this in the future as it seems that the church leaders there have the b@lls to take on some real issues…now, God forbid I find in their archive any “How to…” sermons…I will just PUKE!
I was just by that church this weekend. We have some friends that go there. It is huge! They have to direct traffic for each service!
I thought that they used to repeat the sermon twice each Sunday.
Turns out it was just an echo!
