Bag of Randomness

  • I saw that the Grammys had an award for both Record of the Year and Album of the Year.  What’s the difference?
  • Not only did I hear Belinda Carlisle turn 50 the other day (men that grew up in the 80’s cry) but she will be on Dancing With the Stars.  More shocking, the former crushing New York Giants Hall of Fame linebacker Lawrence Taylor.
  • I’ll never look at the new Pepsi logo the same ever again.  Link
  • I had a college English professor that refused to give me an A on any of my papers.  The highest grade she gave me was a B++.  She said it wasn’t good enough to be an A-, but too good for a B+, with her major issue being that I was “too folksy” in my writing.  I wonder if Mark Twain ever heard something like that from one of his instructors.
  • It’s tough to live in NYC on only $500K.  Article
  • I’m still surprised a phonebook is delivered to my door.  I can understand why some people may want them, but if there was a way to opt out of them, I would.
  • Former eBay CEO and high-profile surrogate for John McCain’s presidential bid plans on running for governor of California.  That should be an interesting race to watch.  The race for Texas governor should also be interesting if Kay Bailey Hutchinson decides to run.  Texas if a very Republican state, with a Republican governor that plans on staying in office.  If forced to choose, I would probably vote Hutchinson over Governor Good Hair.
  • The author of “The Shack” will be speaking at noon and 7 p.m. on Feb. 23 at Lake Highlands Church in Dallas for those of you that are interested.
  • Cynthia Izaguirre is a local news anchor that became popular on YouTube for a hilarious slip of the tongue when she worked in New Mexico.  Ever since she has been on the air in North Texas, I always do a double take when she says her name because she really rolls the r.  There’s nothing wrong with it, but I always wondered why she said her name one way, but on her commericals the voice-over guy says it without rolling the r’s.  Well, recently she posted a video stating that she will pronounce without rolling the r’s to make it easier on the public, but I feel like in this video she is talking down to us.  And you may notice that the video is on Macie Jepson’s old webpage, who was recently layed off.
  • For the librarian in your life, maybe she would like some Libarian Perfume.
  • Helen Thomas looked like she lost a lot of weight.
  • WifeGeeding was laying on the couch with a pillow at the end of her feed.  DogGeeding couldn’t jump on the couch because the pillow was in the way, so he used his mouth to pull it from the couch and then he jumped on.  It was the cutest thing.
  • I believe the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue comes out today.  I can’t recall ever buying one on my own other than it coming in the mail when I was a subscriber, but sometimes WifeGeeding will pick one up for me out of the blue.  I appreciate her self confidence and her trust knowing that she’s the true beauty in my life, and it’s nothing more than just a silly glammed-up magazine.  But I also know there are couples that are sensitive towards that sort of thing, and I certainly respect what they think is best for their relationship.
  • Regarding that issue, you just don’t know what you’re getting anymore.  Back in the day, those photos were pretty much legit . . . no Photoshop or cosmetic surgery on the models.  Today, not so much.  So I guess I have a greater appreciation for the models of yesteryear.
  • Amazing mummy photos from National Geographic.  Link The hands and feet are really interesting, and the last photo of the two-year-old will stick in your mind.

Here’s the way I understand the Grammy categories you mentioned:

Album of the year is awarded to the performer and producers of a full length album.

Record of the year is awarded to the performer and producers of an individual song.

Song of the year is awarded to the songwriter or songwriters of an individual song.

The Startribune from the Twin Cities had an article a few days ago about removing your phone book deliveries.

Re: Album & Record of the year. Bryan has it right. Song is just for the songwriter, Record is producer, engineer, artist etc…for the best song & Album is for all of the people associated with a recording that was the best collection of songs.

About half the time both Song & Record of the year are the same.
