Bag of Randomness

  • The weekend started off with WifeGeeding and I taking advantage of Ruth’s Chris Summer Celebration special.  For $89 bucks, you get a three course meal for two.  Not the best of deals, but a pretty good one for this kind of place.
  • They actually had bison on the menu. I was tempted, but I wanted to stick to the special.
  • I blogged about it before, and I’ll mention it again, but all men’s rooms should have the Anti Splash guards like the ones at Ruth’s Chris.
  • I want to highly recommend to anyone needing to solve a computer issue to contact Data Doctors.  The external hard drive I was using to store pictures  and other important docs crashed and I thought some of my most precious and irreplaceable memories were lost.  This was something I blogged about a while ago but just got around to solving.  Usually it would cost me about $300 for them to extract the files from the hard drive and burn them to a DVD.  Instead the rep recommended I buy a $30 device at another store to solve my problem – and it worked!
  • SisterGeeding finally made it to NYC.
  • I was contacted by the lovely and talented author Margaret Feinberg.  She just finished a new book and was wondering if we wanted to read and blog about it.  You will soon see posts from WifeGeeding as she reads The Sacred Echo.
  • Steve Kroft is probably the weakest reporter at 60 Minutes, but he seems like a nice guy.
  • I admit I’m disappointed in Obama not wanting to partake in any town hall debates.
  • I’ve been watching the Generation Kill miniseries on HBO and find it very intriguing.  It’s great watching something that really isn’t political and give you a fair representation of what life is like there as a soldier.
  • I can’t imagine what it must like to be a soldier and have to make the decision of enemy or non-enemy in a split second.
  • I’m a bit surprised at how the soldiers interact with their officers.
  • I remember being at a church service several years back when I was church-hopping and was given a post card to write to a soldier.  Since it was a spurt of the moment kind of thing, I wrote something pretty generic.  Now that I think about it and after watching this series, I think I would simply tell the soldier to write me back and tell me what he needs and I would send it to him . . . or her.
  • I saw some special over the weekend on the two Olympic buildings in China.  I was surprised that the government hired design architechs from outside the country.
  • Preseason football is on and I’m happy.  I love seeing (and tracking) people trying to make the team.
  • Hard Knocks premires on Aug 6.  I was disappointed with the last version with the Cowboys, but this year should be much better with a better cast of “characters” and a bunch of crazy story lines going into the season.
  • Heard a song on the radio I haven’t heard in years . . . Meatloaf’s “I Would Do Anything For Love, But I Won’t Do That.”  It was my first iTunes purchase in months.
  • North Texas summers are hot.  Duh.
  • I find the Brett Favre saga intertaining since I have no vested interest in the situation, but do find it funny how the Packers just reversed their decision on whether or not he can compete for the starting position.
  • I also watched Iron Eagle this weekend.  When I watched that movie for the first time as an 11 year old, it was one of the coolest movies in the history of ever.  Now, I just realized how silly it is.
  • I think starting today I’m going to schedule two posts to appear at noon just to help your day go by.
