I’m sure this kind of story never got big press in the U.S. but in the 1970’s and 80’s there were several moves to buy Canada. The concept was that the U.S. government could annex Canada if they gave every adult in Canada a check for $1,000,000.
It would cost the U.S. government 20 trillion dollars but you’d own a resource heavy territory and the economy would explode with 20 million new millionaires. There’d be hyperinflation (especially in the North) but that money would seep down into the South rather quickly and the thinking is that it would all even out within a few years.
and to think Canada is a small one-hour military push from being the 51st state in the union…
“and to think Canada is a small one-hour military push from being the 51st state in the union…”
Huh? Are you saying that Canada could be “conquered” in one hour? Canadians know too much about Americans….it would take a lot longer than that.
Canada as our 51st state?…but would they greet us as liberators?
