Dorset action man Bear Grylls has been accused of faking it in his Channel 4 adventure series Born Survivor, in which he is parachuted into some of the most inhospitable places on Earth with little more than a knife and the clothes on his back.
The programmes, screened in the spring, depicted the ex-SAS man showing how to stay alive in terrain ranging from frozen mountains and dense rainforest to scorching desert.
The Eton-educated 33-year-old’s stomach-churning survival tips included eating live maggots from the body of a decaying animal carcass, sucking fluid from fish eyeballs and squeezing water out of fresh elephant dung.
But now an advisor to the programme has claimed that many of the scenes were not as they seemed.
American survival consultant Mark Weinert, who was recruited by Diverse Productions, told the Sunday Times: “If you really believe everything happens the way it is shown on TV, you are being little bit naïve.”
He told the paper Grylls claimed to be stranded on a desert island on one occasion.
However, he was actually in Hawaii and spent some of his time there in a motel, Mr Weinert alleged.

I told several of my friends last week that this guy was a fake… It’s pretty difficult to “survive” in the middle of nowhere with a camera crew following you every second. For a real survivor watch survivorman.

Bear Grylls was my hero untill yesterday when I heard the news.
It’s a bit like the feeling you get when you find out you’ve been cheated on. Grylls says on most epidodes that his camera crew will follow, but not allowed to interact with him unless it’s an emergency. Where do the motels fit into this statement? They offer no help he claims, but it’s ok to stay in the comfort of a motel? They state, “The program explicitly does not claim that presenter Bear Grylls’ experience is one of unaided solo survival. If thats is true why did they not inform viewers otherwise? The show has been outright misleading and quite honestly I feel a bit betrayed. I guess I will have to question everything i see on the show from now on.

I recently noticed on day 2 or 3 of a show that Bear was pretty clean shaven. Too bad we’ve been deceived- oops, I guess the word is ‘naive’. Everyone wants a hero and Bear’s come down a notch or two in my book. As for Doug going to PDC – just remember the sunscreen if you make it to Mammitas

Bear should hang it up. Nobody’s going to watch him anymore, except maybe fags. He strips for fags in broad daylight and crashes at motels at night. For breakfast, he gets blue berry muffins, not dead carcassus.
the only thing that is fake is that sometimes the dead animals are brought to him because you don’t always just happen to stumble upon them! And he wants to show people how you could survive with these items, otherwise many people would just walk past the dead animals. DUH Hell who would eat a LIVE fish if they didn’t have to?
