The Childrod

Friends, The state of Discipline of Children in the Western World is in CRISIS! We all see it every time we go to a restaurant, ride a plane, or go into a convenience store: Young people totally out of Control! And who’s to Blame? Certainly not the immature Youth, unready for unbridled freedom with no experience to guide him.

No, the Blame lies squarely with today’s Mothers and Fathers who abdicate their Duty to Police the behaviour of their very own children!

It seems you can justify just about anything in the Lords name. Did they say anything in the Bible about Shock Collars, Electroshock Bed Wetting Trainer, and Psychogenic Non-Epileptic Seizure Generators?

I have a two year old so I may have some living to do but I’m not sure I’ll ever be looking for fancier methods to spank him.

The thing I’ve been constantly wrestling with, and it remains so, is making sure I’m correcting (and disciplining) rather than punishing behavior. Correcting and discipling have the child in mind and punishing is more of a retribution. In other words, it’s a struggle to maintain composure during discipline and not be angry but to prayerfully look at the process.

I would have a horrible time with ‘the rod’ of not wanting to slip into anger and retribution.

I just found out THIS YEAR that over 40 years ago, teachers in Texas (Episcopal Day School and public school) were hitting my kids. The kids didn’t tell me at the time because they thought it was normal procedure for school. Had I known at the time, there would have been a lawsuit or criminal charges.
