The New Baptist Covenant Celebration will begin on the evening of Jan. 30, 2008, with a keynote address by Former U.S. President Jimmy Carter. Under the theme ” Unity in Christ,” the three-day program will feature speakers and presenters who will address historic Baptist commitments and explore other opportunities to work together as Christian partners. The Biblical text for the Celebration is Luke 4:18-19.

You’ll see the very Democratic Bill Clinton there along with GOP presidential hopeful Mike Huckabee.  I also find it interesting that Sen Lindsey Graham (R – S. Carolina) who pushed hard for Clinton’s impreachment will also be speaking at this event.  And of course Al Gore and Jimmy Carter will be in attendance.  For you Baylor folks, the Rev Julie Pennington-Russell, pastor of Calvary Captist Church in Waco will be there as well.

It’s nice to see that people of very different political beliefs can put things aside and come to Christ together.  Although I’m sure the Southern Baptists will still claim Christ as a Republican.
