Retaining Wall Update – Day 6 – Timelapse Edition

I haven’t made a timelapse video in a quite a while, mainly because I lost the camera I modified to take timelapse photos.  For Christmas I bought a interval and exposure remote switch for my DSLR and decided to bust it out for this retaining wall project.  I’ve been taking timelapse pictures since the first day the retaining wall crew got to work using multiple angles and plan on making a composite video of all days involved, but for now I decided to practice with the pictures I took yesterday and whip up a quick video since it was the day the mounds of dirt got spread out.

In case you are wondering, I set my timer to snap a pic every 30-seconds.  In this video I goofed by putting a few of the beginning photos at the end.  Also, below is a slideshow of current photos from the project.  When the project is complete, along with the composite timelapse video, I’m going to post some side-by-side before and after photos.

  • A lot of my close friends are getting new cars, and I have to admit I’m a little jealous. But while they are driving around DFW with their new fancy hands free controls and impressive gas mileage I’ll be home admiring my retaining wall and standing on top of my new dirt.
  • There’s a house in our neighborhood that’s been flying a flag with the Olympics rings on them since the Winter Games started.  I know Olympic bronze medalist Kim Zmeskal lives in our neighborhood so I thought it was her house, but after some research, she lives in another casa one street over.
  • I put my name in the hat to get some Conan tickets for his Dallas visit, other than the cast of ‘Dallas’ and Mark Cuban, I wonder who’ll his guests will be.  Since Jamie Foxx considers himself from Dallas, he’s a maybe.
  • When my father died an Army honor guard helped dress him for his funeral and of course served as pallbearers and gave him the customary three gun salute.  I can still recall the honor and pride they took in their actions and in their conversations with me, so it broke my heart to hear how the Wisconsin National Guard was acting.  I get the whole you have to find humor in things, but be smart enough not to post it on social media.
  • I didn’t pay much attention to it, but there was some sort of drama going on between the American and Canadian ice-dancing couples over who got the gold and why.  But the part that caught my attention was that both the American and Canadian couples are coached by the same Russian coach.
  • I’m not sure a lot of the younger demographic caught the nod to Carson on last night’s ‘Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon’ between Fallon and Jerry Seinfeld.  After Jerry did his standup routine he just kind of stood there and Fallon kept waving him over to sit down.  Back in the day, Carson only did that to standups he really enjoyed, and after they got to sit down, their career skyrocketed.
  • Last night on ‘The Daily Show’ Kevin Spacey basically said politicians are performance artists, you can’t believe them, what they say, that they aren’t being sincere, and most are bad actors.  I’d agree.

  • I know ‘The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon” is aired from Rockefeller Center, which doesn’t have a lot of elbow room, but that new set sure did look tiny.
  • I thought Fallon’s suit really stood out, a very classic gray with a dark blue matted tie, almost like he walked off the ‘Mad Men’ set.
  • Conan had a much better opening segment when he took over the reins, and both basically had the same sentimental opening about being a kid and staying up late at night watching Carson.  Actually, Fallon didn’t have an opening segment, he just went straight to the monolog that was rather flat, but I needed some excuse to post that Conan video because I liked it so much.  But Fallon’s strength is getting people talking via social media and getting celebrities to come out of their shells doing some great bits.
  • Kim Kardashian was on the last ‘Tonight’ with Leno in a farewell celebrity ensemble bit and on the first ‘Tonight’ with Fallon in a welcoming celebrity ensemble bit.
  • Visually Stunning.  That was quite the scene seeing U2 play on top of Rockefeller Center at dusk with the Empire State Building in the background along with the Rutgers band.  I was surprised the band played before Will Smith was interviewed.  And it was freaking me out how close everyone was to the edge of that roof.
  • Fallon’s interview with the band was a bit awkward, but Edge was pretty funny starting off playing “Stairway to Heaven” when asked to play acoustically.
  • I also caught Kevin Spacey on Letterman last night and Spacey actually made a Larry Hagman reference.  Spacey always does a Johnny Carson impression on Letterman, and he once again delivered last night.
  • I saw a news segment on KTVT that AT&T Stadium is getting some huge “AT&T STADIUM” wording put on top of the dome that will light up and heat the roof in case there’s another ice issue, but I can’t find the story.
  • I hear the Cowboys and Stars have a frosty relationship (forgive the pun), but I came across an article that the Stars are trying to host a hockey game at AT&T Stadium.

  • A mother’s breast milk is different from a boy than a girl, but the article doesn’t mention anything about what happens if the mother has twins with one being male and one female.  Wouldn’t it be cool if one breast was specific to each sex?
