  • With the new retaining wall and all that new dirt, I need a new sprinkler lines.  A lot of my Saturday was spent digging trenches myself.  Most of the digging was done with a pickaxe that once belonged to my grandfather.
  • I was watching Star Wars: A New Hope when DaughterGeeding walked in and became interested, she became really interested when I told her they were on their way to rescue a princess.  I think her favorite character may be Chewbacca.
  • Our local grocery store came up with a bit to push their wedding cakes and wine and champagnes.  The couple seemed to have gotten beaten down with a ton of proasic jokes and I think their feet must of been hurting as when I left they were sitting in chairs.
  • In Peter King’s MMQB he said Jerry Jones was at the Oscars.
  • Crazy thought – Letterman retires in two to three years and is replaced by Jay Leno.
  • The official White House photographer tweeted a picture of President Obama in the Oval Office wearing casual clothes on the weekend, and a lot of folks responded that the casual clothing in such a setting was disrespectful.  So the photographer later tweeted pictures of President Reagan wearing casual clothes in the Oval Office from when he was Reagan’s official White House photographer.
  • At $13 million a year, Roger Staubach is the highest paid retired NFL player.  I would have thought he and a few others would be making more than that.  That article also mentions Michael Jordan makes $90 million a year . . . retirement must be nice.
  • BroApp will automatically send prewritten text messages to your girlfriend so she thinks you’re an attentive.
  • The ultimate Disney tweet – and it’s with 140 characters.  You can find a much larger version of the picture here.
  • Tempting Picture of the Day – I found this on Reddit and it resulted from a paper shredder accident.  It has to be the most painful hand injury I’ve ever seen and for some reason I can’t help but think the extra main pouring alcohol on it would fee like.  It is certainly not for the faint of heart and pretty grotesque. You’ve been warned, here it is.
  • In a marketing bit the PR folks behind ‘The Americans’ put on spy school in London and a Buzzfeed reporter wrote about it.  The 20-yard gun/knife rule stood out.

  • Doughnut shop in Massachusetts won’t sell doughnuts
  • Oscar thoughts:
    • Ellen’s opening monologue was pretty darn funny.  Heck, she was great as a host.  I got a kick out of the group selfie but I got a bigger kick out of the view from the back because Liza was too short for the photo.  Also, when Ellen was in front of the camera she was using a Samsung phone, but behind stage she tweeted with an iPhone, so it looks like Samsung got a nice plug.
    • My eyes still hurt from Anne Hathaway’s dress.
    • Jared Letto won every female’s heart the way he acknowledged his mother.
    • A friend thought Kim Novak looked like Roger Ebert with long hair.  I was actually surprised that Roger Ebert was put in the ‘In Memoriam’ piece because the year Gene Siskel died there was no mention of him until Whoopi Goldberg, who was hosting that year, acknowledge his contribution to the industry and stated he should have been included in that year’s ‘In Memoriam’ piece.
    • Yesterday was Texas Independence Day and a Texan won the Oscar for Actor in a Leading role.  Way to represent, Mr McConaughey.  Though he should have accepted shirtless.  I heard that UT lit the tower in honor of his win last night, if true, that’s a pretty big honor for a Longhorn.
    • That was quite an impromptu tribute from Bill Murray to Harold Ramis, especially when you consider they had a falling out and haven’t communicated in many years.
    • Since I like U2 and ‘Sherlock’ – Benedict Cumberbatch Photobombs U2 on the Red Carpet
    • The Oscars are always just a tad bit better when Jack Nicholson is in the front row.
