  • Powdered sugar is overrated.
  • I have this haunting childhood memory of an event that happened in the second grade.  My mother always made me do my homework when I got home, before I could play or watch television, and this one time I had a reading assignment and she made me read it out loud to her.  The next day at school we were divided in small groups with the teacher who asked me a question about the story and I remember telling her that I didn’t know the answer.  That didn’t make her happy and she accused me of not reading the story.  When I told her I did indeed read the story she said I wasn’t telling the truth and ordered me to sit in the hallway to read it.  I remember that long walk to the hallway, and I couldn’t hold back the tears as I was embarrassed in front of my classmates and frustrated that even though I did read the story, I couldn’t remember anything about it and being accused of lying.  I never told my parents about that event, I guess I was scared it was going to get me into even more trouble.  Man, the things that goes through the mind of a seven-year-old and the things that stay with ya.  I think of of this at least once a week.
  • I totally gave Adrian Peterson the benefit of the doubt up until yesterday when I really started to pay attention to all the stores.  At first I just thought it was a bit of rough parenting he learned from when he was a child, and then I thought he wouldn’t do such a thing especially after he lost a son to child abuse by another man, but all this evidence seems overwhelming.  Of course I feel for the kid, but I also feel for his head coach, Mike Zimmer, a long time Cowboys assistant coach that is finally getting his big chance as a head coach and this falls in his lap.  But I do have a feeling Jerry has an idea of a public image campaign and signing him to the roster somehow.
  • After seeing this, I may not buy a smoker after all, I might just build a smokehouse – DIY Cedar Smokehouse
  • I don’t know a lot about medical professionalism, but I’m pretty sure Joan Rivers’ doctor lacked it if it’s true he took a selfie with her when she was under anesthesia.
  • While watching the Ken Burns Roosevelt documentary last night I was reminded that state legislatures use to chose their U.S. senators.  I’m not saying I like the idea, but I’m curious as to why it’s no longer like that.
  • It was stated in that documentary that President Taft’s Republican party was actually a collection of state parties that controlled their state legislatures which in turn was controlled by special interests.  Maybe history is repeating itself.
  • My liberal friends are going to think I’m nuts for saying this, but they way TR and FDR acting in the state legislature reminds me a lot of how Ted Cruz has made a name for himself.
  • TR use to carry a lethal dose of morphine when he was in the wilderness, just in case he knew he wasn’t going to make it out alive.
  • I think the documentary made a mistake.  From my understanding it stated that former Chief Justice of the United States Supreme Court Charles Evans Hughes ran for president.  That is, it implied a former Chief Justice ran for president.  But in reality, Hughes ran for president and later became Chief Justice.

  • I played the classic video game Pole Position last night.  It took me forever to remember and figure out you can change gears.
  • While listening to the new U2 album which is about their youth and young adult life, I suddenly became in awe of how cool it must be to be extremely tight with your best buds and then be able to write music about that bond as you become men.
  • Here’s an interesting article about what Joey Ramone’s friends and family feel about U2’s tribute single.  The most interesting part was Ramone’s brother stating that Apple has been working with him for weeks to gain approval for the use of Joey’s image without knowing exactly what it was being used for.
  • I’m surprised they made this mistake of combining the red stair with the name Saigon – Logo for Yum! Brands banh mi restaurant angers Vietnamese community
  • The only reason I’ve stuck with Sprint as my mobile provider is because of the unlimited data plan, but I’m thinking of switching WifeGeeding to another carrier because getting service/reception is horrible.  I was surprised that AT&T will charge for “detailed billing“.  I’ve had horrible experiences with AT&T and Verizon and still hold a grudge, so maybe my only option is T-Mobile.

  • I remember our elementary school principal walking around the lunchroom with a paddle as a form of intimidation to keep the noise level down.  He later became president of Weatherford College and I can’t think of one person that ever had anything negative to say of the man.  Times have changed.
  • In junior high our coaches use to use a paddle that had holes drilled in it so that it could move more swiftly through the air.
  • ‘Psych’ is the latest show I’ve been streaming on Netflix, it’s one of those cheesy hour mystery drama’s that starts to grow on you where you just have to overlook some stuff and accept others just to enjoy it.  Surprisingly, I’ve really grown attached to the father that Corbin Bernsen’s portrays and I really dig the show’s theme song.  I was surprised to see one episode was directed by Joanna Kerns from ‘Growing Pains’.

  • Ken Burns has some crazy hair, I wonder if it’s a piece.
  • I don’t think cousins Theodore and Franklin Roosevelt ever took a picture together, even in a large group or family setting, even at TR’s niece’s wedding to his cousin.  The Ken Burns documentary may have shown one big wedding party picture last night, but I couldn’t identify TR.  UPDATE: It turns out all three were in a picture together when TR arrived back from an African and European trip and a large group welcomed the former president back home.
