Bag of Randomness

  • Our local fire department has a great December tradition of surprising the neighborhood by having Santa throw candy at the kids from atop a fire engine with lights and sirens ablazing.  Seeing the kids run to the door with excitement last night is something I hope I never forget and I look forward to it each year.
  • We also watched Rudolph last night, and per the ‘CBS Evening News’ it’s the 50th anniversary of it being first aired.  In their segment, they said it was filmed entirely in Japan and with all sound recording done in Toronto [Wikipedia].  You know, it is funny how CBS started last night’s programming with something wholesome like Rudolph and ended it with the Victoria Secret’s Fashion Show.  Remember when that thing first aired on CBS and the commotion it caused?
  • One of our neighbors, a friend of WifeGeeding, hasn’t been home in a very long time as she’s been with her mother in another state who is terminally ill with cancer.  WifeGeeding noticed her yard needed the leaves raked, and being the person that she is, decided to rake their yard on a whim.  I helped her bagged them up, but we’ll have to return tomorrow to finish the job.
  • It’s got to be more than a decade since I last put on a pair of whitey tighties, and I doubt I’ll ever wear another pair again.
  • The Texas Rangers have a Christmas commercial with Derek Holland and his dog, poking a little fun at the injury blamed on the dog.  I can’t find it anywhere online so you’ll just have to watch out for it.
  • Local radio legend Terry Dorsey will call it quits come Dec 17.  I’ve never listened to the guy, but I do remember he had some funny television commercials.
  • Maybe it’s because I’m such a red-blooded patriot, but it bugs me how adored and how much attention William and Kate are getting.  It also bugs me how there’s certain protocol like how they can’t be touched.  William and Kate posed with LeBron for a picture, and the media picked up on how LeBron shouldn’t have put his arm around the princess.  Sheeesh.  They need to get over that “we shadn’t be touched” stuff unless they have the ebola.  If she showed up at GeedingManor, I’ll guaran-damn-tee-ya Kate would get one of those bear hugs from me that you’d hear her back pop.  I guess I can understand it more if we were on their soil, but if you are are gonna visit ‘MURICA, then you need to more abiding to our way of life.
  • $23.49 and 49.99 – Target Was Selling A Black Barbie For Twice As Much As A White Barbie – I have no idea why Buzzfeed didn’t take the extra step to see what price the two dolls were selling for at Wal-Mart, Toys R’ Us, or other retailers before publishing this article. They possibly gave competing retailers an opportunity to change prices after its posting.  Actually, I checked other articles on the story and they didn’t either, so I decided to take a look at those other two retailers myself.  Toys R’ Us sells both versions for the same price of $39.99.  Oddly, Wal-Mart doesn’t sell the African-American Barbie Fashion Design Maker Doll, but the white version of the doll is $29.00.  However, this article shows a more expensive ice skating African-American Barbie than the white version at Wal-Mart.
  • I just stared at this picture for a long while just wondering the swell of emotions that must be going through his mind – Third Ohio Man Wrongly Accused of 1975 Murder Exonerated – And when you think of numerous exonerated black men that came out of Dallas as well as all the recent events, you kind of start to understand why so many fear the police.
  • Ben Stiller shared a nice story on Letterman last night.  His daughter is now going to the school he attended as a kid.  The school opened up a time capsule and she found a letter her father wrote when he was a kid at the school.  Olivia Munn was also a guest and talked about how her mother has a Chinese/Vietnamese/Oklahoma accent.  That actually brought back a few memories of MomGeeding who had a Vietnamese/Texan accent which only about four of my readers will remember.

Amazing Exchange Between Former CIA director George Tenet and Scott Pelley

A Senate report claims the CIA misled Congress, the White House, and the public about the true nature of their interrogation program post 9/11.  I’m not saying I support it or find it misleading, but on the ‘CBS Evening News’, Scott Pelley played a portion of a 2007 interview he had with George Tenet, then the CIA director.

In light of the report, I found their exchange, which begins around the 55-second mark, absolutely captivating.
