Harold Hamm offers $975 million divorce check; ex-wife rejects it

Harold Hamm, the chief executive of oil driller Continental Resources who is embroiled in a bitter divorce, offered to pay his former wife $974.8 million, but she rejected a hand-written check, lawyers for both sides said on Tuesday.

Hamm’s offer would have paid his ex-wife, Sue Ann Arnall, immediately the full cash value of what he owes based on a November divorce ruling by an Oklahoma County judge.

The lawyers said Arnall did not want to accept the check for fear of hurting her appeal of that decision.

Arnall, a former Continental executive who was married to Hamm for 26 years, contends that her award of around $1 billion in cash and assets was inadequate and allowed Hamm to keep the lion’s share of a fortune her lawyers valued as high as $18 billion.

Hamm had already paid his former wife more than $20 million during the divorce proceedings.

Hamm’s appeal contends that the $1 billion award was too steep. Hamm has lost billions tied to the value of his 68 percent stake in Continental in recent months, which his legal team blames on the sharp fall in oil prices.

Bag of Randomness

  • I felt my first earthquake yesterday while in my upstairs office around 3:00 PM, but WifeGeeding didn’t notice anything as she was downstairs with the kiddos.  I didn’t feel any of the FIVE that happened later on.
  • About a week ago I mentioned that order a pair of size 4 jeans from eBay (for the wife, not for me) but when they arrived they were actually a size 4S, as in small.  I contacted the seller but never got a response after five days.  After that time period, eBay provides an option to investigate and they ended up crediting my PayPal account for the cost of the item as well as shipping.  Yesterday I decided to leave an honest but negative review of the transaction and the seller contacted me.  He said he never saw that I contacted him, noticed I got a full refund and stated that wasn’t fair, and thought I should return the jeans to him.
  • I watched ‘Marvel’s Agent Carter’ last night and liked how they portrayed Howard Stark as Howard Hughes, especially when he was testifying in front of Congress.  The show had a good theatrical feel to it.
  • I think most men find a female with an English accent a turn on, but oddly I like it more when a woman with an English accent speaks with an American accent.
  • I wasn’t too impressed with CBS11’s “investigative reporting” yesterday.   Back in 2012 a female Kennedale teacher was sentenced to five years in prison for having group sex with her students.  That’s inexcusable.  Her husband has stayed by her side, as they have kids and he’s committed, and now he’s deployed overseas.  She’s currently at home on parole with her children, but it doesn’t seem his deployment has anything to do with the parole, and she wasn’t required to register as a sex offender.  CBS11, in a bit of gonzo journalism, filmed their reporter from the street going to her home and confronting the former teacher when she answered the door asking about her parole.  I don’t condone what the former teacher did, but she paid the price and did the time until the legal system let her out.  It seems like CBS11 is directing their anger of the early parole at the wrong subject.  I might be wrong, but I’m guessing that former teacher is just trying to put the past behind her and move on, fearful what her kids might find out about what she did when their friends taunt them from what they are told or find online, and the last thing she wanted was to be on the local news for abiding by the system.
