I recently hosted a dinner party at a catering space, and it was all I could do to get people to RSVP for the headcount, with constant repeated nagging. In the end, we had two no-shows (both claimed illness, so I guess I'll let it slide) and two extra guests (folks who had RSVPed for 1 but then brought a date). It evened out, but at nearly $150/person, it reminded me for the first time in a long time — wedding reception — of the importance of giving an accurate, timely RSVP and sticking to it.
