  • While going to my mailbox I ran into my neighbor that plays for our local NFL franchise.  He seemed like he was in the doldrums, but I did tell him that I was proud of him and the team and thanked them for such a fun season.  He still seemed in the doldrums, perhaps I should have done a song and dance.
  • While driving home from my allergist on MacArthur Boulevard through Coppell traffic came to a stop.  A very young boy was trying to catch his dog that came off his leash, and the dog was darting from the grassy medium to both sides of the streets as if it was a game.  That poor kid had a look of worry and hopelessness that would break your heart.  One fancy sports car pulled over and Dallas Cowboy Brandon Carr stepped out to help wrangle up the canine.  And yes, there’s probably some joke I could have thrown in about his defensive coverage skills, but that fruit seemed a bit low hanging.
  • Speaking of dogs and allergies . . . I had an allergy test performed yesterday.  This is actually the third one of these I’ve had (why so many is another story), and I’ve had mixed results.  The results of one test said I was allergic to dogs and the results of the others said I wasn’t, yesterday’s also said I wasn’t.  I also had a blood test to see what kind of foods I’m allergic to and plan on adjusting my diet accordingly.

  • Having my eBay account hacked really has bothered me,  I think I’m actually going to change my passwords to all my accounts at least once a month.
  • A radiologist sent a bill in the mail and doesn’t accept any online payment, so I wrote a check, and without even thinking twice about it, I dated it with the correct year.
  • I keep a fine point Sharpie for the sole purpose of signing the back of new credit and debit cards.
  • I stayed in my upstairs office working a little later than normal and then the kids walked in ready to play.  I logged off my work computer almost instantly since there wasn’t anything pressing.
  • In that picture in the link above you’ll see that DaughterGeeding is dressed as Batman.  We’ve been watching a lot of the Batman television show from the 60’s, and when she play fights she’ll say “Bam! Pow! Smack!”  But yesterday she threw in, “SLICE! I’m gonna slice your eyeball!”  Hey kid, tap them brakes.
  • CBS11 will be looking for a new sports director as Babe Laufenberg couldn’t reach a new agreement with the station.  When he first started I thought he was horrible, but he certainly improved over the years.  Publicly he comes across as very friendly and personable, but in my one encounter with him at Reunion Arena he was a bit of a jerk that seemed full of himself.
  • Jason Garrett was a third string quarterback for the Cowboys and later became a head coach in the NFL.  Since Babe was a third string quarterback for the Cowboys, I bet he’s thinking he could do the same thing.
  • I bet Babe stays in the market, probably working for the Cowboys since he already does their radio broadcast, but I’m not sure how he’s gonna feel about the pay cut.
  • I don’t think Cowboys fans have fully forgiven him for his play against the Eagles back in 1990 in Bounty Bowl II when the Cowboys needed to win one of their final two games to reach the playoffs and he lost them both as he played for an injured Troy Aikman.  Laufenberg  completed 13 of 36 passes with four interceptions.  Okay, perhaps most Cowboys fans have forgiven him except for me and my good friend Bone.
  • I keep thinking about Ohio State QB Cardale Jones, the third stringer who won the three most important games of the season which ended in a championship.  It’s just a really good story for coaches to teach their players.  Sure, you may not be starting, or even be on the second string, but it’s important to continue to work hard because if the opportunity ever arises, it’s time to prove your worth.
  • What’s interesting about Cardale Jones is that he may not even be the starting QB next year, but at least he’ll get to compete with some solid stuff on his resume.  If I were him, I’d turn pro. He’d probably get drafted towards the end of the draft, but will start earning a paycheck, learn, and won’t have to worry about any drama back at OSU.
  • I always thought Sen Marco Rubio had an issue with his hair thinning on top, and a quick search on Google shows I wasn’t the only one and he freely admitted it back in 2012 – Yahoo NewsWashington Post.  But as of late, it seems a lot thicker.
  • For some reason Buzzfeed thought it was newsworthy to report that Sen Ted Cruz once was ticketed for having alcohol as a teen.  I really don’t understand what a common juvenile mistake has to do with anything about his character and the way he governs today.  If companies like Buzzfeed think this stuff is important, there’s no telling what politicians will have to go through ten or so years from now as “reporters” start looking at tweets and Facebook posts made during their youth.  Buzzfeed is a funny animal, they like pretending they are a respectable news source but will post stupid original content about women peeing standing up.

  • If I had a lot of financial wealth, instead of awarding scholarships, I’d give out something I refer to as post-scholarships.  Those funds would go to people who are already out of school and have been making student loan payments for at least three years, and their monthly loan payment is a significant portion of their monthly income.  The experience of being in the real world making student loan payments that seem forever to pay off and takes a huge chunk of your monthly income is different than the student getting free money to go to school.
