  • While listing to KLUV, our local oldies radio station, I heard U2’s ‘I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For’.  That made me feel old.  Later in the day, without me tweeting or posting about the song, my pastor emailed me asking for my interpretation.
  • During the middle of Jimmy Kimmel’s monolog last night, the lights went out, fog filled the stage, and a DeLorean rolled on stage with Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd who came out and played like they were Marty and Doc Brown.  There were a few other surprise guests and conversation about the future, but personally, I really liked the Biff joke.  I’ll see if I can find the video and post it later.
  • We attending a fall festival that WifeGeeding was in charge of organizing for one of our local organizations.  While eating a Kit Kat, I was surprised it was solid chocolate, not one bit of wafer was inside.
  • Our friends, a family from India, attended the fall festival.  Their two elementary kids made gave me a chuckle with their costumes.  The boy was dressed up as a cowboy from the wild west, and the girl was dressed up as a Native American.  Another way to look at it, an Indian (from South Asia) dressed up as an Indian (Native American).
  • Stewardship season, or drive, or whatever you want to call it is right around the corner for our church.  I think they try to plan it right before Christmas so people will have funds.  Each year we get a letter telling us how to be good stewards of things like our finances and time, but they only ask for a written financial pledge.  I sent an email yesterday suggesting we should also include room on the pledge card to include time, whether it be so many hours a week or month, and provide a few examples on how to do so.  Tracking their time isn’t important, but I think it would get people thinking on how they can get involved and help round out the stewardship message.  It turns out there’s some opposition to the idea when it was brought up years back.

  • @matthewjdowd – i don’t get it about Paul Ryan, he was going to move his family to dc if elected vp, but won’t move them as speaker? it makes no sense.

  • I’m not sure if I’ll have anything posted tomorrow morning.  My company’s president and CEO will be in town for dinner and it could be a late night out.  I’m not a social person, so this sort of thing isn’t something I’m necessarily looking forward to.  Besides, even though our company have employees in DFW, all my project peers live in Austin, so I really don’t know any of the DFW folk.

Bride presents dad with ‘certificate of purity’ on wedding day

Brelyn Bowman wanted to show her dad, a prominent pastor in Maryland, that she was still a virgin before she said “I do” to her longtime boy toy at a lavish ceremony Oct. 10 that included more than 3,500 people.

To make her innocence official, Bowman took matters into her own hands.

“I was able to present a certificate of purity to [my dad] signed by my doctor that my hymen was still intact,” Bowman wrote on her Instagram page along with a photo of her first dance with her old man at the wedding.

  • If you could spare, perhaps, just one minute of your day – Send a fun Halloween note to a Texas Children’s patient. We will deliver the notes, along with the cute Halloween finger puppets above, just in time for Halloween.
  • Right before bedtime, ‘It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown’ came on the television when the kids were in an adjacent room.  I didn’t think they were familiar with Peanuts music, but the moment they heard it play they ran to the living room and their eyes were glued to the TV for the next half hour.  We had to move bedtime back a little bit, but I sure didn’t mind.
  • Before the start of DaughterGeeding’s taekwondo practice, I was waiting to speak to her instructor about her upcoming belt test this Saturday.  A mother and her son (probably a third-grader) were in front of me, and the mother told her child to tell the instructor why he isn’t wearing his belt today (parents can remove a belt as a form of discipline).  The kid tearfully explained that he used taekwondo to attack his teacher.  I thought the instructor handled it well with his response and working with the parent.
  • I ordered something for BoyGeeding off Etsy that was going to take about three weeks to make and was scheduled to ship on the first of October.  When it didn’t arrive by the sixth, I emailed the seller who apologized, stated due to Halloween she had more business than expected, and would upgrade my shipping to Priority and have it sent out by the end of the week.  She didn’t hold up to that commitment and it wasn’t mailed until the sixteenth, and I didn’t get the item until the nineteenth.  I left an honest review stating the item was of excellent quality and noted the shipping issues.  She contacted me a few hours I left the review and refunded me the $7.00 in shipping she originally charged me and apologized again.
  • I’ve mentioned before that the father of a close friend had a liver transplant, and thankfully his health has improved.  However, his house burned down this week.
  • It won’t happen, but I think South Carolina should hire Mack Brown as their next head coach.  They have a history of hiring head coaches with past national championships, like Lou Holtz and Steve Spurrier.  Add in the fact that Mack Brown’s last head coaching gig before Texas was North Carolina, a sports gossip columnist or tabloid could write a believable article.
  • While watching ‘Fargo’ on FX Monday night, I saw a commercial for their new upcoming series or mini-series ‘American Crime Story: The People v. O.J. Simpson’ where you see John Travolta play Robert Shapiro.  I’ve searched online, but I just can’t find the commercial anywhere.  However, on the way back from driving DaughterGeeding to school on Tuesday, I heard a commercial on a hip-hop radio station about the Cochran Firm.  They kept making it a point to reference the late Johnny Cochran, saying, “Yes, that Johnny Cochran”.
  • If I recall correctly, guests get a modest check when they appear on late night talk shows like ‘The Tonight Show’ or ‘The Late show’.  This made me wonder if Larry David, Tina Fey, and Alec Baldwin got any compensation for their appearance on ‘SNL’ last Saturday.  I’m thinking no, that they just did it for the fun of it, but I have nothing to back that up.
  • This man took corn on the cob to the next level.
  • The Dallas Morning News interviewed a man that still operates 19 Blockbuster stores in Texas and Alaska.
  • A lot Texans are upset with this New York Time’s recipe for Texas chili.  The biggest offense seems to be the using of beans. Others don’t like that it has ground beef, while some are confused by the use of a “chili sauce” and others feel it’s simply a stew and not chili.
