  • I was happy to see SNL bring back Larry David to play Senator Bernie Sanders.
  • It’s one thing to host SNL, but I’d love to just introduce the musical guest.
  • It’s nice to see Aaron Rodger get brought back down to Earth, I just wish the same would happen to Tom Brady.
  • TCU has been treading water holding onto a top ten spot all season, they squeaked by Kansas State and Texas Tech and haven’t really played a quality opponent until Saturday.  I’d still like to see Trevone Boykin, his play has really impressed me, especially how he carried his team for that miracle win at Kansas State.
  • I’ll say it before and I’ll say it again, the last thing Baylor wants to see is a TCU team that has “nothing else to play for”.  TCU’s most meaningful game going forward won’t be a bowl game, but the one against their most hated rival.  Seriously, there’s more hype about that game than any bowl they’ll get invited to. However, if TCU wideout Doctson is out, Baylor shouldn’t have much to worry about
  • What I don’t like about a soft college football schedule and style points is that I feel like I’m buying a diamond and then discovering it’s cubic zirconia, or that you decided to vote for a candidate because you think he or she is the real deal and then when they get elected they go against campaign promises.  Playing sports is about competition and proving your worth and capability under adversity, and soft schedules and style points go against the essence of competition.  I’m somewhat reminded of some football players in Mineral Wells that bragged about their winning season and personal records, but they were only playing at the small private Christian school that competed against other small private Christian schools.  Some of them would come back to public school and join a mediocre football team and find they were no better than third string.  The look in their eyes realizing they were only great because their level of competition was weak is something that has stuck in my mind.
  • I can’t remember when college football got a bit stingy about uniforms.  When I was in high school and college you used to see players trying to show off their stomachs.  Miami and Florida State seemed to be the most prominent in my memory.
  • I enjoy watching Oklahoma State football because they always feel like an underdog to me.  I also enjoy watching Kansas State football because I have the utmost respect for Bill Snyder.
  • A San Antonio high school has a high powered offense – Roosevelt’s regular-season finale wasn’t just an 83-65 win. It broke a state record that wasn’t even a week old. The Rough Riders compiled 906 yards of total offense. According to the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS), Roosevelt’s mark is a state record. The mark is the fifth-highest ever recorded in the nation.
  • I haven’t deleted, removed, or prevented a comment from showing on this blog in forever.  However, once a month I’ll check the spam comments folder, which is full of spam comments (I get over a hundred a day), and occasionally a few legit comments will land in there.  So if you posted a comment and it didn’t appear, please don’t think I did anything intentionally to keep it from appearing.  I’ve tried to adjust the spam filter settings several times over the past two years, but I guess there’s no perfect setting.  I noticed a few comments from RPM and ALEC appeared in that folder, so my apologies.
  • I really enjoy reading David Gergen’s political analysis. The man only served four presidents in both political parties.  I thought his piece on Bush 41’s remarks on Cheney, Rumsfeld, and Bush43 were insightful.
  • Three weeks ago, life couldn’t be better.  I’ve been in a funk since then, dwelling in the doldrums, but things are looking better.  Too often I think there’s a quick fix or some switch I could just flip, but it’s a process that times time and effort to get to a better place.
  • Our children’s minister decided to donate one of her kidneys for no specific reason other than being capable to.  Her kidney went to some male in New Jersey.

  • A forty-seven-year-old woman went to the hospital for abdominal pain.  To her surprise, she found out she was pregnant and gave birth an hour later to an 8-pound, 2-ounce daughter.  She’s been married for 22 years and this is their first child.
  • I’m quite certain First Baptist Dallas now has plans to form a Super PAC after this ruling – The 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, in an opinion issued last week, clarified that churches, designated as nonprofit corporations, are not only permitted to partake in campaigns to recall sitting politicians but can also form a super PAC to band together in those endeavours.
  • I’ve been using a nasal steroid for my allergies for most of my life, but it wasn’t until I watched this video that I learned I’ve been doing it wrong.  I’ve always squirted the stuff straight into each nostril, but the doctor in the video states that once in the nostril, squirt towards the ear.
  • Those McDonald’s commercial with Mike Ditka as a Green Bay Packer and Jerry Rice as a Dallas Cowboy makes me feeling like I’m watching and old ‘Super Friends‘ where Bizzaro Superman makes an appearance.
  • Imgur – The shutter speed made it look like the propeller was melting
  • Robin Williams’ will prevents use of outtakes for ‘Aladdin’ sequel – Unfortunately, Disney had to ditch the plans when they discovered Williams’ will prevents them from using his name, taped performances or voice recordings for 25 years after his death. Such a move protects the actor’s widow, Susan, and three children, Zak, Zelda and Cody, from incurring estate penalties due to his posthumous earnings.

  • A map of all the underwater cables that connect the internet – I had no idea that petroleum jelly is actually inside those underwater cables.
  • It makes me think of the fish on ‘The Simpsons’ – Video: Man Claims He Caught Three-Eyed Fish In Gowanus Canal
  • I’m not sure why, but I was hoping the new Peanuts movie would come in first at the box office this weekend, but it came in second behind the new James Bond movie.

  • I took that photo above by setting a timer on the camera on my phone, attaching my phone to my belt with a couple of rubber bands, and then grabbing DaughterGeeding’s hands and swinging her around.  For the most part, it turned out alright.
  • On Monday, I stated with the fall time change, I have the best of intentions of using the extra hour to workout in the morning but never follow through.  I had no intention of working out early each morning this week, but the kids just happen to wake me up early and I actually did it all week.
  • Even though I’ve been getting plenty of sleep this week, more than usual each night, I don’t feel as rested as I think I should.  Part of the reason for my getting more sleep, I’ve given up ‘The Daily Show’ and ‘The Late Show’.
  • While at the time I didn’t like working in a restaurant or in retail, I’ve learned a plethora of life lessons and how to treat people with compassion and respect.
  • Yesterday I was informed I won my company’s Halloween costume contest.  That’s two consecutive years I’ve won that thing.  Last year the prize was only $50 and all I did was dress as Snow White.  I didn’t plan on entering this year, but then I saw first place was $500 bucks, so I sucked up my pride, put on some spandex and other questionable things, and created a new company mascot.  I’d post a picture but I’m not comfortable with revealing the name of my employer at this time.
  • Even though she didn’t inform me, I was surprised that our CEO and one of the co-founders instant messaged and told me how happy it made her and how creative it was, and went on to say that I was her “favorite person in the WHOLE world :-)”.  Should there ever be another round of layoffs, and I pray that will never happen, I sure hope she remembers me.  Although winning a costume contest and needs of the workplace, as well as how my talent is rated, are two very different things.
  • I got an email last night from one of my readers.  It included a picture of Guadalupe Peak.  He’s camping and climbing the mountain with several of his buddies and noted my blog post about my climb as a motivational factor for them to do it.  That’s about the third or fourth person to tell me such a thing, which is quite humbling.
  • My sinuses have been killing me all week.
  • This week I’ve felt like I’ve been swarmed around nothing but dark clouds, but things are finally starting to brighten up.
  • I had dinner with a friend last night, my second oldest friend, actually.  He nailed down my biggest issue with life – I just want to be respected and I rarely feel respected.  Now that I’ve identified the problem, it’s time to do something about it.
  • There’s an upcoming biography about Bush 41 in which he’s quoted as criticising Dick Cheney and Donald Rumsfeld.  I’m assuming the author and the former president have worked on this venture for at least a couple of years.  Bush hasn’t been in that great of health as of late and there have been some close moments.  If he were deceased, it would be interesting to see the reactions to his comments, I’m wondering if people would have claimed them to be false or made up.
  • During the summer, WifeGeeding and I enjoy watching ‘Food Network Star’ where contestants compete each week to earn a chance to film a show on the network.  They are having a casting call in Dallas tomorrow.
  • D Magazine is having a Best Pizza in Dallas tournament.  I Fratelli has always tasted like cardboard to me, but then again, I’m biased because it was always ordered where I worked and I tired of it quickly.  Fireside Pies has to be the most expensive for below average pizza in town.  Campisi’s is alright, and I enjoyed Gino’s East when I had it.  We usually head to NY Pizza Pasta in Valley Ranch for our pizza needs, and will occasionally head over to Carmine’s Pizzeria in Lewisville.  But most of the time, it’s usually Palio’s Pizza Cafe is what we order when it’s not from a commercial pizza place.
  • This is a bit surprising, especially after eight straight years, bu there will be no “Big D” NYE celebration at Victory Park this year .  It’s all because the American Airlines Center decided to end the partnership which allowed Big D NYE in Victory Park.  It makes me wonder how many people have already rented a room with a good balcony view at the W to catch the fireworks.  I’ve often thought of doing that to surprise the family.
  • Bindi Irwin has reportedly had her Dancing with the Stars contract rejected because she needs to show proof that her dad, Steve, is actually dead.
  • Ozzy Osbourne visited the Alamo yesterday and apologized for urinating on it.  It was in connection to a piece he taped for his new History Channel show.
