How dangerous are magnetic items near an MRI magnet?
Fun, games and safety implications with a 4 tesla (T) MRI magnet that was about to be decommissioned. Note how magnetic objects let loose tend to oscillate along the magnet bore. That’s because the peak magnetic field gradients are at either end (near the magnet face), causing peak acceleration as the object enters, followed by progressively damped changes of direction. Seinfeld – The Note introduction
This episode was the only one (other than the original pilot) with a different version of the theme song, which included female back-up singers harmonizing over the iconic slap-bass tune. The singers were added by composer Jonathan Wolff at the request of Jerry Seinfeld, who wanted to add “a little sparkle” to the music, suggesting the addition of some scat lyrics. Seinfeld and executive producer Larry David both liked Wolff’s additions, and three episodes were produced with the new style music. However, they had neglected to inform NBC and Castle Rock of the change, and when the season premiere aired, they were surprised and unimpressed, and requested that they return to the original style. The subsequent two episodes were redone, leaving this episode as the only one with the additional music elements. Also, since this episode’s credit music played “Joltin’ Joe Dimaggio”, this leaves the full version of the vocalists’ version of the song to be unknown.

- Coldplay will be playing the halftime show at the Super Bowl. That’s a solid choice, but I thought it would be Taylor Swift; however, I think wrapping up her world tour would in December would make it hard to plan for such a show in early February. My money is on her for next year, and then the Foo Fighters the year after.
- To Build A Permanent Manned Base On The Moon– Plans are being finalised – Russia’s space agency is planning to build a manned moon base – launching modules into space on six separate rockets. Russia plans to launch a lunar probe in 2024 which will scout possible locations – before landing a man on the moon in 2030. Construction of the Luna 25 lander has already begun, the official state news agency Tass has reported. Once the components are in place, assembly of the moon base will continue over ten years.
