Obituary writer for The New York Times takes a stab at Jesus

Sam Roberts, an obituary writer for The New York Times, imagines how, given the facts available then, his predecessors might have reported the aftermath of an execution in the Middle East one Friday two millennia ago.

Jesus of Nazareth, Whose Messianic Message Captivated Thousands, Dies at About 33

Jesus of Nazareth, a Galilean carpenter turned itinerant minister whose appeals to piety and whose repute as a healer had galvanized a growing contingent of believers, died on Friday after being crucified that morning just outside Jerusalem, only days after his followers had welcomed him triumphantly to the city as “the anointed one” and “the Son of David.” He was about 33.

For a man who had lived the first three decades of his life in virtual obscurity, he attracted a remarkable following in only a few years.

His reputation reflected a persuasive coupling of message, personal magnetism, and avowed miracles. But it also resonated in the current moment of spiritual and economic discontent and popular resentment of authority and privilege, whether wielded by foreigners from Rome or by the Jewish priests in Jerusalem and their confederates.

Bag of Randomness for Good Friday 2016

  • You’d think after marble and golf ball sized hail my car would have some damage, but there wasn’t one knick.
  • This isn’t a comment judging Heidi Cruz’s attractiveness or beauty or any act of incest, but I think she shares a lot of facial features with her husband and they look like siblings.
  • Until yesterday, I wasn’t aware Robin Wright was in the new Wonder Woman movie which will be released in June 2017. She’ll play the part of Wonder Woman’s military aunt. After seeing what Wright brought to the Claire Underwood character in ‘House of Cards’, I’m pretty darn interested to see her role in this new movie. I’m also highly impressed at how fit the soon to be 50-year-old actress is.
  • Today’s dose of ‘MURICA! – The Atlanta Braves will be serving something called the Burgerizza at their ballpark – a grilled 20-ounce beef patty, covered with five slices of cheddar cheese, topped with crispy bacon, and served between two 8-inch pepperoni pizzas.
  • Jaguar is going to resurrect the exceptionally cool looking roadster, the XKSS, which debuted in 1955.  Here’s a little trivia on the car – “In total, just 16 cars were produced, sold mainly in the United States. The most famous owner was Steve McQueen, who bought a secondhand XKSS, sold it to casino owner William Harrah, and then paid him double the initial amount to get it back a few years later.”
  • Here’s something I’ve always wondered about lawyers. If they were presented with the opportunity to argue before the U.S. Supreme Court, would they do it? For a lawyer, would that be the ultimate experience? I’m guessing it depends on the lawyer. Every football player wants the chance to play in the Super Bowl, but every hiker doesn’t want to climb Mount Everest.

  • And to think I’ve eaten at the very first one built in Abilene – Taco Bueno ranks as Americans’ favorite Mexican chain, according to Market Force Information’s annual quick service restaurant study. It beat out restaurants like Chipotle and Qdoba, which tied for first last year, as well as Rubio’s Fresh Mexican Grill and El Pollo Loco.

I haven’t watched any of this show and simply found this clip browsing Reddit. Heck, I had no idea that Louis CK had a new show. Per Wikipedia – Horace and Pete is an American comedy-drama web series created by Louis C.K. starring himself and Steve Buscemi as Horace and Pete, co-owners of a bar, Horace and Pete’s. The first episode was released on January 30, 2016, on C.K.’s website without any prior announcements.

Anywho, with vulgarity, the differences in political parties are discussed with some discourse. It might be a bit watered down for some.
