This Texas High School Ump Is No Police Lieutenant Frank Drebin

The footage appears to show the first base umpire running over toward home plate as the batter, J.T. Morgan, is rounding the bases. The ump clearly kicks dirt over the base, completely covering it. When Morgan comes home, he realizes home plate is not visable, and even shrugs before he kicks away the dirt and steps on the base. The first base ump waits near home until Morgan touches home plate before running back to his position. Had Morgan not touched the plate and ran back to the dugout, he would have been ruled out and his home run wouldn’t have counted.

Screenshot 2016-05-12 at 9.27.30 PM

Today, we launched this interactive data visualization that allows you to see how the Twitter buzz about each candidate has shifted week over week since September.

The rankings are based on the number of users Tweeting about each candidate plus users engaging with those Tweets. The default view shows the candidate’s performance as a ranking chart, focusing on how they rank relative to each other for all US conversation.

You can explore the visualization in several different ways:

  • Adjust the graph to view the raw share value for more insight into the distance between each candidate’s share of conversation
  • Filter by party (using the dropdown menu)
  • Display only active or former candidates — on the graph we’ve marked the point when a given candidate withdrew from the race
  • See how debates or polling days (primaries and caucuses) related to Twitter buzz (indicated by the podium and ballot icons)
  • View state-level performance for the candidates (select a state from the dropdown menu)

Arkansas Law Enforcement Drama

An unusual law enforcement scene unfolded in Arkansas, Monday afternoon, as a state trooper pulled over and ticketed a Jericho police officer was driving a marked patrol car while on duty.

Jericho Police Chief Roy Hill told FOX13 it is one of the most ridiculous things he’s seen in his law enforcement career, and there is much more to the story than meets the eye.

The latest series of events unfolded just after 2 p.m. on Highway 77 in Jericho.

“There was no cause to pullover a marked police car with blue lights (and) with officers in the car, and tell them, ‘Y’all ain’t got your seatbelts on. Y’all are speeding,’” Chief Hill told FOX13 when discusses the incident.

Chief Hill said the debacle dates back February, when a 19-year-old was stopped and issued a citation for speeding. A ticket was given to the individual, but the chief later got a call from the Crittenden County Sheriff’s Office asking a professional courtesy.

“He just told us it was a son of a trooper Mickey Strayhorn,” Chief Hill said of the ticketed individual.

The ticket was dropped by the Jericho Police Department.

But fast forward four weeks, and the same teen was stopped by a Jericho police officer. Once again, it was for speeding.

Chief Hill said the teen was traveling 57 miles per hour in a 45 mile per hour zone.

“So I contacted the sheriff and advised him. I said hey the young man came back through speeding again. He said ok. He said you would’ve thought the kid would’ve learned his lesson, but he didn’t,” Chief Hill told FOX13.

That brings us to Monday.
