- While watching Frozen with the kids yesterday, there was a scene in which two characters were debating how to store firewood, with the bark up or down. Curious, I search online and found this old article – Norwegian TV show about a fireplace sparks nationwide debate after furious viewers say wood was stacked with bark facing ‘the wrong way’ – Norwegians on the coast get more rain and they tend to stack it bark up to keep the wood drier. The inland Norwegians tend to keep the bark faced down to protect it from snow as it builds up from the ground.

- Notre Dame University decided to have current VP Joe Biden and former Speaker John Boehner as their commencement speakers, which I thought was a cool, symbolic thing to do. – Notre Dame’s President Rev. John I. Jenkins, said the university chose to give the prestigious award to the two politicians from different sides as a comment on the current political environment “where poisonous invective and partisan gamesmanship pass for political leadership. It is a good time to remind ourselves what lives dedicated to genuine public service in politics look like. We find it in the lives of Vice President Biden and Speaker Boehner,” he said in a statement.

The footage appears to show the first base umpire running over toward home plate as the batter, J.T. Morgan, is rounding the bases. The ump clearly kicks dirt over the base, completely covering it. When Morgan comes home, he realizes home plate is not visable, and even shrugs before he kicks away the dirt and steps on the base. The first base ump waits near home until Morgan touches home plate before running back to his position. Had Morgan not touched the plate and ran back to the dugout, he would have been ruled out and his home run wouldn’t have counted.
