Bag of Randomness for Monday, March 6, 2017

  • I was listing to a podcast this weekend and it referenced the County Seat, that old clothing store that used to be popular in malls.
  • Heard a story on NPR driving back from a friend’s house about a woman whose maiden name was Hitler. She joyfully told the reporter how as a child and teen, no one ever called her by her first name, they just referred to her as Hitler and it never bothered her. She talked about how the name is dying out as most Hitler families are giving birth to girls and others have changed their name. When she and her husband were choosing names for a baby, he really wanted the middle name to be Hitler but the husband wasn’t supportive. She also spoke of a time talking to a psychologist with the last name Phobia. When introduced to her the first time, she laughed and then apologized explaining she knows what it’s like to have a unique last name. The psychologist asked what was her name and after she answered, the psychologist doubled over in laughter.
  • For BoyGeeding’s Star Wars themed birthday party several weeks ago we bought wall decals to place around the house. Yesterday he moved Wicket and Slave Leia next to his bed. I fear I know what his future fetish will be.
  • One thing is for sure, the boy loves his Ewok, he takes him everywhere.
  • While writing thank you notes for his birthday presents, WifeGeeding made BoyGeeding start over as he signed many of them “Luke Skywalker”.
  • I’ve driven past this place a thousand times and always laughed at the name, but finally stopped by to verify if the donut was indeed gourmet. I don’t have a sophisticated pallet, but I thought it was gourmet-ish.
  • My back pain is still severe after numerous chiropractor treatments and massages. WifeGeeding thinks, and I think she may be correct, that I have an issue with m sciatic nerve. I thnk I may visit the orthopedic who treated my knee a couple of years ago.
  • The Sacramento Bee – California exports its poor to Texas, other states, while wealthier people move in
  • Buzzfeed – This 7-Year-Old’s Disney Dress-Up Photos Will Make Your Inner Child So Jealous
  • A lot of people have firm convictions but often don’t attempt to study or know why they have those convictions. I’ve been trying to reason why I feel certain convictions for some things and not others, and be able to reasonably explain in a concise manner why I do.
  • One of my major weakness is that I lack the ability to see and comprehend the big picture.
  • The older I get, the more I realize I’m not very intelligent.
  • This seems like something I would have done
  • The Metal-as-Hell Cellist Behind the Wonder Woman Theme
  • I got a kick out of this GIF, especially how the future champ improvs – Arnold getting a selfie with eventual champ Cedric McMillan at the 2017 Arnold Classic
  • I enjoy watching the CBS sitcom ‘The Big Bang Theory’ but had no idea there was going to be a prequel –
    • After an extensive casting search, the half-hour comedy has found its young Dr. Sheldon Cooper in ‘Big Little Lies’ actor Iain Armitage, as well as Sheldon’s young mother with Zoe Perry (‘Scandal’) set to play Mary Cooper, The Hollywood Reporter has learned. The comedy will center around the young version of Emmy winner Jim Parsons’ Sheldon. The comedy has been described as Malcolm in the Middle but with a young version of Sheldon.
  • Star Wars and Calvin and Hobbes is the perfect combination in these fantastic cartoons
  • A letter from a ten-year-old inspired Tesla to launch a video contest
  • What Will Electric Cars Sound Like? The streets are about to get noisy, but what will they sound like?
  • Vulture magazine has the latest David Letterman interview – A conversation with David Letterman about retirement, Trump, and more
    • Here’s one thing which really stood out:
For probably the first half or so of your TV career, you stayed away from politics —
Because Carson was my model. I’ll tell you the other thing: All of that changed because of Jon Stewart.
  • Clickbait for loyal reader Ben who I’m sure knows at least half of these
