Boy’s Body Turning to Bone

ay.jpegLike so many other 6-year-olds, Hayden Pheif likes to play ball with his family.  But this simple task  proves difficult for little Hayden. Due to one of nature’s most rare and catastrophic diseases, he can’t raise his arm to throw the ball, or even bend over to pick it up.

Hayden suffers from a disease caused by a renegade bone making mutation called Fibrodysplasia Ossificans Progressiva, or FOP, that is known to affect only 500 children in the world.  FOP causes bone to grow where it shouldn’t, and will eventually imprison him in a paralyzing second skeleton.

Senate Chamber Desks

Who knew there was so much history to them?

For example, the Candy Desk

Traditions associated with the Senate desks continue to evolve. A recent example is the so-called “Candy Desk.” In 1965 Senator George Murphy of California originated the practice of keeping a supply of candy in his desk for the enjoyment of fellow senators. In every Congress since that time a candy desk has been located in the back row of the Republican side, on the aisle and adjacent to the Chamber’s most heavily used entrance.

Or that senators carve their names in them?

Christian Cheerleaders of America

Did you ever think very much about C H E E R L E A D E R S?

Probably not. Just a bunch of airheads, making a lot of noise, interrupting you while you are trying to watch the game!

It is true that cheerleaders sometimes get a bad rap…… and unfortunately in today’s society, sometimes they deserve it. Some cheer teams have evolved completely away from their central purpose and have become either sex symbols or obsessed with competing. This is sad. The true purpose of cheerleading is to be a really awesome source of spirit and support and when done correctly can make a big difference in the morale, spirit and sportsmanship of a ball game. As a matter of fact, cheerleaders can ultimately change the outcome of the game as they get the crowd involved and the team pumped up so much so that they start to change the way they play!
