As many of you know, WifeGeeding tutors part time at a nearby Sylvan Learning Center.  It’s a place where parents send their children (K-12) to help them in their studies; and WifeGeeding usually tutors elementary kids, except a few weeks ago she tutored a 44 year old man in learning how to multiply and divide fractions.  His goal was to get his GED and then hopefully get into college.  He’s great with the kids that are in his group and the staff loves him as well.

I’ve heard of some great stories about seniors citizens that to go back to college and high school, but this is the first I have heard of someone paying and attending a tutoring facility and humbly subjecting himself in the culture known as adolescence.

Today was his last day as he completed all his learning objectives.  He took the time to thank every staff person that helped him and gave them a bottle of wine.  WifeGeeding was a recipient of one of those bottles even though she only helped him once.

The world needs to hear more stories like this, which is the reason for the post.  Here’s hoping the gentleman achieves his goal and inspires others.

10,000 Israeli policemen to secure Bush visit

More than 10,000 Israeli police officers will secure US President George W. Bush’s visit to Jerusalem next week, police said Wednesday. The three-day visit, which gets underway on Wednesday, will see a total of 10,450 police officers on the streets of Jerusalem to safeguard the president and his entourage, Jerusalem police chief Aharon Franco said at a police briefing. The police will be out in their largest numbers since the landmark 2000 Jerusalem visit of Pope John Paul II, and the 1998 visit of former US President Bill Clinton, Franco said.

No security threats against the US President have been received by police to date, he added.

The total number of police forces to be deployed during the three days of Bush’s visit to Jerusalem even surpasses the 8,000 police officers that oversaw Israel’s pullout from Gaza two years ago.

New Pole Tax in Texas

Strip club fee: In what some have dubbed the “pole tax,” Texas will require its 150 or so strip clubs to collect a $5-per-customer levy, with most proceeds going to help rape victims. Club owners argue that the fee infringes on freedom of expression, is an unconstitutional occupation tax and unfairly links their industry to sex crimes.

The Texas Entertainment Association and the owner of an Amarillo club have sued to block the fee, and a hearing is scheduled for Jan

There only about 150 strip clubs in Texas?  That seems like such a low number considering the size of the state.  Heck, I would have thought DFW or Houston would have that amount alone, even uber conservative Abilene has one so I would have thought there would have been more in the state.  I guess that just about sums up my strip club knowledge.
