Swahili Time Wall Clock

What is Swahili time? Swahili speakers count time differently than most other people. In Swahili Time, 1 o’clock in the morning is the first hour after sunrise (what everyone else calls 7:00 a.m.), and 1 o’clock at night is the first hour after sunset (what the rest of the world calls 7:00 p.m.).

Why? Because most Swahili speakers live close to the equator, and on the equator the sun rises and sets at the same time every day of the year. Unlike countries far from the equator, where sunrise in June might occur at 4:30 a.m and sunrise in December might be at 8:30 a.m., the sunrise in the Swahili speaking world is so consistent that you can set your clock by it – so people do.

Major caucus line at my precinct

  • Pandemonium is a good word to describe this event.
  • We had to park several blocks away.
  • The polls stayed open for an extra 2 hours just so everyone that entered the building when the poll closed could vote.
  • The caucus system in Texas isn’t very easy to follow or understand, but it was really neat to experience it first hand.
  • Everybody was pretty darn happy despite the long lines and confusion.

Six Flags DubaiLand

Six Flags will help develop thrill parks “across the Arab world,” including a 5 million-square-foot Six Flags DubaiLand park, under a deal the company announced Tuesday.

Six Flags and Tatweer, a member of Dubai Holding, announced the deal they will team up in a “strategic alliance” to add a theme park to the massive DubaiLand entertainment development.

Six Flags DubaiLand will be the first Six Flags project outside North America. DubaiLand is a key part of the emirate’s goal of transforming itself into a leading worldwide tourism hub.

“Featuring its signature lineup of thrill and themed adventure rides and attractions, Six Flags DubaiLand will boast world renowned entertainment franchises such as the children’s musical group Wiggles and professional skateboarder Tony Hawk,” the two companies said.

Groundbreaking is expected in 2009, the companies said.

The first thing to hit my mind was that crazy old man dancing while wearing a turban for a new commercial.
