  • WifeGeeding’s friend created that college of me as a child (middle), DaughterGeeding (left), and BoyGeeding (right). I love it. I never took the time to compare what I looked like as a child to my children. I mean, I have mentally, but never with the pictures next to one another.
  • The wife and kids are in East Texas visiting family during spring break.  you can only imagine the parties will be throwing at GeedingManor the next few days.
  • It turns out I correctly diagnosed the problem with the refrigerator water dispenser, the water valve was defective after all. We bought that refrigerator at a Sears outlet back in January of 2005 and only had to have it repaired once, maybe twice. The average life expectancy for a properly maintained refrigerator is between 14 and 17 years, so we are in that window.
  • We watched Captain Marvel this weekend and really enjoyed it. It was set in 1995, but I was a little disappointed it didn’t have more subtle 90’s references. Sure, there were obvious ones like dialup internet and a Blockbuster. But I wanted to see a Ford Probe or a Chevy Beretta in the background. Marvel does a great job of storytelling and using commercials and trailers to make you think things will develop one way only to take you another.
  • While I was excited to see Captain Marvel, I have to admit I was probably just as giddy to see the end credits scenes to piece together things for the next Avengers movie. Here are a few non-spoiler theories:
    • Many fans have questioned why Nick Fury hasn’t used the pager before. I bet we find out he has and he either couldn’t answer or has appeared before and no one knew it.
    • I bet we’ll see Captain Marvel at the moment the pager goes off.
  • Superhero movies are such a great escape for me. I escape this reality and get lost in another one for a few hours and leave feeling like a kid again.
  • GIF – Star Trek fans should enjoy this underwater Enterprise.
  • Thirty years from now, I bet the number of fighter pilots actually flying in cockpits will drop by more than 50%. Most fighter jets will be operated remotely or AI.
  • Nature is a patient sculpture.

  • My now retired pastor grew up in Chicago and is a Cubs fan. I thought it would be cool if I could get his favorite team to honor him with a letter on Cubs stationary, so I wrote the ballclub a letter and included a self-addressed stamped envelope. In my letter, I also provided some “evidence” so they could be assured they weren’t going to recognize someone who might embarrass them, that he wasn’t a grand wizard or anything. To my surprise, they answered my letter and added enough knick-knacks that my nine-by-ten-inch self-addressed envelope with four stamps was no longer sufficient. They kindly returned the unused envelope to me. And, as you can see, they came through with my request and provided a hand-written letter to my pastor. I loved how they sealed the envelope, with a big Cubs sticker (left image). I have no idea what the letter said, but my pastor seemed genuinely touched. Kudos to the Cubs.
  • I forgot “2” is a prime number.
  • Regarding the slow and/or no flow refrigerator water dispenser, I’m kicking myself for not mentioning I first checked water pressure, then for any visible blockage, and changed the water filter. This video led me to believe my inlet valve needed to be replaced, as their example looked exactly like my issue.
  • I haven’t heard the song in a long time, but I have George Harrison’s Got My Mind Set On You playing in my head. In particular, the part, “But it’s gonna take money…A whole lot of spending money… It’s gonna take plenty of money…To do it right, child.”

Bag of Randomness for Thursday, March 7, 2019

  • My apologies for anyone who may be offended by my posting of an image with bikini-clad women.
  • Sometimes getting what you want is a disappointment.
  • I’m afraid I’m about to jinx myself. The water dispenser in our refrigerator has started to flow very slowly or not at all. For you scientific folk, there ain’t no laminar flow going on. I think I’ve identified the problem to part I was able to order off Amazon for a bit under twenty bucks.
  • It may be unmasculine, but I want to learn how to sew.
  • I always thought tap-dancing was cool. Perhaps that’s a result of having a much older father and watching a lot, a lot of classic movies.
  • There are some things it’s just worth spending the extra money on. I love that feeling of owning something for years and being proud of the purchase knowing you’d be unhappy with the slightly more affordable version.
  • I may not express it verbally or in any written language, but I’m extremely cynical.
  • Sometimes, it’s just fun to eat corn on the cob.
  • I put sugar in my coffee for the first time in over a decade. I forgot how much better it tastes, but I’ll go back to just drinking it black. If for no other reason than a random scene in Airplane!. If you take the time to view the clip, notice the propeller noise in the background despite them flying on a jet. It’s like that for the whole movie. I continue to think it’s the most under-rated bit of comedy in all of cinema.
  • Rubber does not conduct electricity, but does the amount of electricity and thickness of the rubber make a difference. I’d be willing to wear a thin surgical glove and to pick up a plugged-in lamp cord with exposed wiring, but I wouldn’t wear the same glove to pick up exposed live wire which powers the lights at AT&T Stadium.
  • Trump calls dying man to fulfill final wish
  • Few things can make me feel more loved and accepted than a dog, on his own free will, sitting on my lap or resting his head on me. And if I ever need to get up, I’ll never not feel guilty, even though I know all he does is sleep and rest all day.
  • This is an old clip I saw it for the first time yesterday. Typos be damned – panties and pantries just differ by one letter. But, I wonder if it was a Freudian slip by the typist.
